CD Reviews of FASHIONED IN THE OLD WAY:
"The Hunger Mountain Boys could have easily been performing sixty years ago instead of at the beginning of the twenty-first century....Fashioned in the Old Way features plenty of the old-style duo singing, guaranteed to raise goosebumps. Expect to hear much more from the Hunger Mountain Boys."
Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine, March 2004

"The Hunger Mountain Boys recapture evenings spent sitting on the floor in front of the old Philco listening to country music that's just about as elemental as it gets. Except for the fact that there's no static, these could easily be taken for transcriptions from 1935 or so."
Sing Out! Magazine, Summer 2004

"The Hunger Mountain Boys, a terrific duo...shared a single, old-style microphone, and they harmonized in the old-country brother style...their fleet playing was matched by their plaintive, microtonal singing."
SETH ROGOVOY
Independent Arts Reviewer

“They're the next big duo...It was a mighty showing by The HMB at The Parkside, they thrilled the locals with a well-paced polished show that was humorous and musically impressive. A lot of the humor was spontaneous, playing off the crowd or whatever was going on at the moment, tuning or finagling the guitar strap, they're very good entertainers. And they're very likeable cats on and off stage.”

  • Great team, perfect blend of voices and instruments

This team sounds like they have been togther for many years, although they are two young guys only a few years into working together. The CD sounds like old time mountain music executed perfectly. Most of the songs were written by one of the pair, but sound like traditional tunes. They remind me of the New Lost City Ramblers. Would like to see a few public domain and Carter Family songs on their next CD.

Beautiful, honest, fun and insightful at once. A rare step back to a musical history stupidly forgotton, but now reinvented. Bravo.

  • Brilliantly sung, played, interpreted, and in many cases, written! Kudos!

This is a terrific recording in every respect. The Boys really create that old country sound reminiscent of the great duos of times past. Not a bad cut on the album, and standouts include "Nashville Don't Touch My Country Music," "Gotta Get Saved," "Cryin', Weepin', and Pinin'," and "Over the Long Tiresome Hill." BUY IT!
