A classically trained female vocalist, heavily influenced by Eastern Philosophy, Pink Floyd, and Tori Amos, and an experimental guitarist who often plays with a bow; you could call this album Innovative, Psychedelic Rock framed by Folk and Jazz.

notes

"...this band reaches you from every corner of the room...a unique blend of creative voices, stimulating and evocative, lush and insightful, passionate and inspiring...a group creating their own sound as they meditate on our world."

Kai Shanti, formerly Kai Sorum - voice, guitar, harmonium, piano - Then and now: Model and actress in San Francisco and Los Angeles. A classically trained musician, Kai teamed with then-husband Matt Sorum (G'n'R, Velvet Revolver) and Lanny Cordola to compose, produce and perform the song "Come A Little Closer" for the action-thriller The Last Marshall. She was also featured in an international Coca-Cola commercial directed by Joel Schumaker. Life Turns. Kai leaves L.A. and all material possessions behind in the search for truth and spiritual fulfillment. She lands at an ashram in Nashville, TN and a spiritual community in the desert of Santa Fe, NM, from which she emerges with a new perspective on life, music and love. From here she journeys home reflecting on these experiences through song.

Alex Callenberger - guitar, sonic curiosity - Expressing emotion in free time: Inside the world of a 45% hearing loss since birth, evolved an inner exploration of music. When in real time, Alex is the musical and theatrical director of productions (Woodstock, Tommy, The Dark Side of the Moon, etc.) at the Uptown Music Collective in Williamsport, PA.

Andy Seal - bass, synths, vox - The versatile bassist, Andy, has performed and recorded throughout the world in a variety of rock, jazz, blues, world, and classical ensembles. He has also contributed music to several independent films and documentaries.

Steve Mitchell - drums, percussion - Van Morrison, Phil Lesh, Francis Ford Coppola, Joe Strummer, Dave Brubeck. This is the abridged list of artists who have called upon the musical artistry of this Grammy Award-winning drummer. As a veteran of the San Francisco music scene, Steve's drumming can also be heard on 25 years of the Charlie Brown Television Specials.

This is an amazing CD! Listen all the time! I just heard Kai's new single, "Our America", it's perfect for our time...Obama should pick it up for his campaign.

  • Keep up the good work!

  • cool stuff

Lead singer Kai Sorum has a smooth, groovy voice that glides seemingly effortlessly over the cool tunes. The songs are interesting and unique though there are hints of other artists I enjoy; I just can't place my musical finger on who they are. There's a bit of a 60s psychedelia to the sound. I imagine lava lamps and bead curtains, especially on the title track Strange Afternoon.
