Peanut Butter and JAM is the second offspring of San Francisco's most hip-happy family music group, Charity and the JAMband. It's a jamboree of dance-happy tunes meant for the whole family to share. "Our music celebrates the joy of childhood and family life," explains Charity Kahn, bandleader, songwriter, lead vocalist and keyboard player with the JAMband. Kahn, a mathematician, musician and mother of two young children, has published a book on the connections between math and music. Her music-activity Jamboodas classes in San Francisco are popular with parents, caregivers and kids. Kahn strives to spread joy, connection and family fun through song, dance and silliness. She's been rocking the kids ever since she became a mom.

    We heard PB&J 1st on XM Kids Radio and had to buy the CD. We ALL(Mom,Dad 3 kids; 5, 2, 1,) love to Jam. The whole CD is FAB!

    We love this CD! Both my 3yr old and 1 yr old love to rock to the music. I have never laughed so hard watching my kids dance! I have even put the title track on my mp3 player about midway through my jog - it puts a smile on my face just thinking about my boys!

  • Too cool to be a childrens' CD

    Before I heard Peanut Butter and JAM, I thought that childrens' music came in various styles of rehashed nursery songs. As soon as we started playing this CD, my son (4) and I were both up grinning and dancing like crazy. PB&J and We Like Funky are dancing favorites, but all of them are clever and enjoyable, especially since the musical styles are so varied.

    I have always refused to play children's CD's for my son in the car...I figure I'm driving so I get to choose the music. I always swore I wouldn't be the kind of mom that plays children's music at full blast in the car. This CD is great because it's not annoying like 99.9% of children's CD's. It's got a grownup vibe but fun lyrics for kids. My son and I both love Hey Diddle Diddle...even my rap music loving husband likes it. Peanut Butter and JAM is also a favorite for my peanut butter loving son. This CD is a must have!!

    If you've got kids and you like music that will get you up there dancing, get this one. This is not music you'll rush to switch off when the kids are out of the area. It's written and produced so well. The best kids' music is done by parents not strictly to teach kids, but to have fun with them and to express their love artistically. There's a dividing line between those pedantic, mechanical kids' music CD's, and genuine family music. This one is the latter.

    Our 3yo LOVES music, has participated in Music Together classes for years, and spends hours choosing CDs to play on his own player (where "Peanut Butter and Jam" now permanently resides). My musician husband and I never tire of listening (or dancing) to Charity's fantastic, fun, funky tunes. Hooray!!

    This CD is simply like no other kid music out there. My 3 yr old just gets the biggest grin on her face when she hears the opening music. I give it for birthday presents, new baby presents, thank you gifts for my clients (who have kids of course, but sometimes I'm tempted to give it to people without kids because it's simply that cool!). And everyone I've given it to has gone out of their way to thank me for giving a gift that they can enjoy as well as their kids! Charity Rocks!

    This CD is fabulous!!!! My 2 boys (41/2yrs and 2yrs and 2mnths) love it and play it all the time. And you know how often that is with kids, AALLLLLL the time! and I actually love it still. Tree House is one favorite of theirs and we now have a tree house because of that song! Goin Fishing is another and Scarf Dance is beautiful. In fact we love them all - there isn't one dud song. give it a try and you'll be hooked.

    I love this CD! My daughter listens to it over and over and over, and I am still smiling (as opposed to the stark raving insanity brought on by repetitions of other kid music.) The lyrics are truly clever, the music is easy for kids to dance to, and yet the CD has a real crossover appeal for adults. Now I give this CD as my standard birthday present (easy to keep in stock, easy to wrap, easy to give instead of last-minute runs to toy stores), and my friends love to Jam as well!

    I asked my six year old why she likes this CD,she replied that it made her feel like she was with a crowd of lovely people. I'd ask my younger kids only they're too busy dancing to it. It makes a great gift for new parents who are worried about having to quit "real music".
