notes
Fortress of Solitude marks the transition from Stark's gothic trance & ethereal works into the realm of synthpop and darkwave. His alluring and enchanting voice brings a new level of artistry into the music that maintains the level of intimacy brought about by composing and producing the entire project on his own.

What An Addiction!
author: Jeffrey DuerrEven though James D. Stark changed music styles somewhat on this album, there is no worry. As Mr. Stark has proved on this album that he can sing very hauntingly and be able to change styles of music like an chameleon. As you listen to FOS or the other two James D. Stark albums you just can't help think of the talent he possesses and what the (Already) bright future might be for him. As of the songs, all of them again are great. Cheers for the great "Depeche Mode" remake of "Halo" from "Violator". As Martin L. Gore is also my favorite composer, Mr. Stark may be up there soon too (Depeche Mode is the only band/singer ever to make three or more studio albums in which I like the whole album). As now I wait in total anticipation for Music of The Night to get here (Hopefully) today.
Love It!
author: Dark_argento_fanLove your remake of Halo. *Cheers*
All aspects
author: MorganaI have been waiting a long time for music like this. The hypnotic music and sensual vocals appeal to everyone I have allowed to hear it so far. It covers all aspects of love and life in one amazing go'round. Keep them coming!
Great album
author: JoshthepossumThis is one of those albums that even people not into the Goth/synthpop will stop and have a listen. This album would be an excellent addition to any music library.

Stark's second CD is a giant step away from Transcendance. Enhanced by his enchanting, ethereal vocals, he truly claims his place as a Projekt artist. If you are a fan of other Projekt bands, especially Sam Rosenthal's Black Tape for a Blue Girl, you owe it to yourself to buy this CD today!
Something new

Beautiful and Elegantly Dark
author: PennyThis album is incredible. I was blown away at Stark's impressive piano/keyboard skills and arrangements. There was not one track that I did not enjoy. This is truly one of those albums that you'll listen to all the way through. His vocals are sensual and haunting, and the music itself takes the listener through the artists emotions. "A Picture is worth a thousand words" Well, if songs were worth a thousand words, and some are, then this album would have an indefinite supply of words...infinity. Stark's romantic, darkwave style is some of the best I have heard in the synthpop circles. What more can I say, but buy the album you will not regret it.
One of my favorite Cd's now. Love it!
author: Fortress of SolitudeDiscovering a new artist is always fun, but you always wonder about that first cd you buy. In this case, the experience was a positive one. This cd is a must have for those who like the "gothic romantic synthrope" style, which I do. Dark, upbeat, thoughtful.. inspiring.
Simply no one like him. Painfully beautiful. Astounding
author: missionaryI've spent a good portion of my time lately with this album. James's work is brilliant. His voice is impeccable. The strength behind this man's voice is shared by a small handful. You would swear there was some classical vocal training involved here somewhere. He promises there wasn't. James recently moved from Iowa to Portland Oregon. To have developed, all on his own, so early in his career, in Iowa, into who he is, is astounding. The music is powerful. It easily heightens ones emotions. It's soothing. It's violently energized. It's beautiful. I've been encouraged that he's began to get club play around here. The floor embraces his work. Fortress of Solitude plays like a soundtrack to a romantically dark performance rather than a typical album. No one else like him.
Beautiful dark synthpop
author: KathyI bought this CD at one of Stark's live gigs. It has hardly left my CD players ever since. The keyboards are soothing and compelling at the same time as are Stark's vocals. The drum lines give the music an energetic quality without being overly dancey. Most of the tracks are of the dark romantic variety, and the lyrics get a little melodramatic in one or two spots. Despite that, the music is so well-crafted that you won't want to go cry in your beverage of choice after hearing it (but you might want to go play the CD a few more times). Fans of '80s Depeche Mode would love Fortress of Solitude, and not just because Stark features a brilliant cover of "Halo" on it. A highly worthwhile addition to any synthpop fan's collection!
Spitzen Goth
author: MerandineEndlich mal was tolles! Ein gut aussehnder Mann, der es dazu noch versteht Spitze zu singen. Sollte man allerdings auch in Deutschland kaufen können. Und vor allem, der gute Mann sollte auch mal nach Deutschland kommen!
So full of emotion and life... leaves you subdued in its' wake
author: Doc Mongoose-bushuraloser.comThis is music of the highest calibre. There is no gothic morbidity here, rather a purgeing celebration of life and its emotion. Welcome joy , welcome sorrow. Fortress of Solitude exudes LIFE.
dark sensual and amazingly felt
author: RachelJames D.Stark fortress of solitude is very intense ride into your deepest thoughts and dreams. There is much talent and decidcation put into this album and is much enjoyed. Thank you
It Grabs You, And Won't Let You Go---Ahh, I love This Bondage......
author: Stacy "Judas Christ" Rugely--ThanaPaulis Records & Movies!Actually, I'm not into fetish. This music really had me going though. SUPER!! And that's an understatement! He's genius! Song construction, production quality, his voice. If I was raised by just my mom, I'd fall in love---With ALL of James' being that is; the greatest part (ahem), his music. Voice again is so dreamy, warm, professional! ! ! Hell, better than most bands in this genre. I know "the mode" R thinking "what the hell?" It's NOT a 5 star album----In the magazine I write for {www.sdmusicmatters.com} it would be 10---In my mind (as a musician as well), it's 15--Yep. I don'y have to tell U 2 get it, after listening 2 the samples U'll want it.
