Romantic darkwave & synthpop for those who have turned to the dark side

notes

"Dying Beauty" is one of the more popular songs from James D Stark's debut album, "Fortress of Solitude" and now the song has been remixed several times to appeal to different tastes and give the track some club life. There are nice mixes by the likes of Tristraum, Assemblage 23, and Chinese Theatre, plus the artist's own new renditions, like a nice piano version to finish off the single. There's also an exclusive bonus song called "Aidra". This synthpop act has a somewhat darkwave mood, but also follows the trends set by the likes of Depeche Mode in his synthpop approach.

What publications have to say about James D. Stark:

"Ethereal and nearly synth-pop orchestrations with polished, emotive vocals... a smoother take on current darkwave"
- Gothic Beauty Magazine

"Clever, well written vocals that convey a myriad of love lost, pain, and a bitter melancholy that bites to the core."
- Grave Concerns E-Zine

Review by Patrik Lindsrtom of Neurozine.com:

It's not very often that i write something about singles, but this one is worth some attention. James D. Stark is from the United States and delivers pleasant synthpop/darkwave. The song that is in the centre of attention on this MCD is "Dying Beauty", a song from his record "Fortress of Solitude". There are 7 different versions of the song on this single.

On so many other singles filled with mixes there are always some good and some bad remixes, but on this single I'm having some trouble to find a version that is superior the others. Apart from the album version there are mixes by Martin Atkins, WinterStahl, Tristraum, Chinese Theatre, Assemblage 23 and finally a beautiful piano version. In almost all the remixes the song is very sedate and sad, but unbelievable beautiful at the same time. After a few days listening I realized, despite my interest for electronic music that I had played the piano version on repeat the most and that must be the version that I will recommend the most. It shows that James not only is awesome in writing lyrics, he is a great composer and musician. This is the most played record in my collection right now and I really think that you guys can spend some money and buy this one, you won't be disappointed.

Dying Beauty is one of the better songs I have heard in a long time.

  • Amazing remixes

I gota say the lyrics...amazingly deep and meaningful. I love the original, but i gota say the tristraum remix goes with the lyrics very well giving them an even more profound impact. The electric/techno beat is just makes it that much better. One of the best songs i have ever heard.

Although I can count the number of singles I've ever bought on one hand, THIS single is something I listen to as much or more than the full length CD, Fortress of Solitude, on which Dying Beauty makes it's "album version" appearance. Each and every version of this song has definate merits and picking a favorite was nearly impossible... the much talked about piano version wins out because it's so full of emotion. If you liked the Fortress of Solitude album, and are curious about this single, absolutely you will not be let down.

  • Beautiful, fun, and inspiring Cd. Would have paid twice the price!

I was very impressed by this cd, so impressed that I immediately recommended it to my friends. It didn't hurt that ordering from Cd Baby got the cd to me a LOT faster than ordering from Amazon.com. This was definitely a good buy!
