notes

SECOND SIGHT is a powerful and engaging follow-up to Sieber's first internationally recognized recording, LUSH MECHANIQUE, which was featured nationally in HEAR Music stores, and Barnes & Noble. A departure from the solo instrumentation of her first recording, Second Sight artfully weaves the rich complexity of Sieber's electric cello with drums, trumpet, saxophone, accordian, vocals and nylon string guitar. The result is provocative and masterful.

Second Sight features Rhiannon (Bobby McFerrins Voicestra), Julie Wolf (Bruce Cockburn, Ani Difranco), Ben Smith (Heart), Erika Luckett, Cary Black. Track number two, "Tell it by Heart," was composed for the soundtrack of "Climb Against the Odds," a documentary on breast cancer which premiered nationally on PBS in the spring of 1999. Richard Farina's original arrangement of "A Swallow Song," and a poem entitled "Tree of Love" by one of Sieber's long-time collaborators, Charlie Murphy, add unique depth and dimension to an already outstanding recording.

"This rich sonic journey weaves the warmth and beauty of Jami's unsurpassable electric and acoustic cellos with drums, trumpet, sax, piano, accordion, vocals and nylon-stringed guitar...A delicious variety in arrangements, too, ranging from the full richness of bass, drums and vocals plus cello, to the poignant simplicity of solo cello. One of the most talented musicians we know has gifted us with another expression of her art." --LadySlipper

In addition to Sieber's solo work, she often tours with Ferron, Rhiannon, and Jennifer Berezan.

I listen to a lot of music while I do bodywork on folks and one of my all time favorite CDs is Jami's Hidden Sky. It is perfect. I decided, based on that, to purchase Second Sight. It is a wonderful CD, with many parts transcendental. I really enjoy the first song. Towards the end it begins to get a bit raw and untamed, which isn't bad, just dissonant. I have a hard time working with that when I am working to harmonize someone on my table. I'm still a big fan and will continue to watch and listen to this artist's evolution.

Unique, surprising, beautiful, compelling, original music that is soothing enough for massage or meditation, yet interesting enough for full attention.

Jami Sieber's Second Sight is, like her other two CD's, a rich, deeply moving, and altogether remarkable creation that takes one into other-worldly and spirit-filled dimensions. She is a pioneering musical treasure. You have to hear it to believe it. Highly recommended!!!
