notes
A hot desert night.
A bonfire blazes, didgeridoos drone, and masked revelers dance to tribal drums. Mystical melodies summon ancient memories, and chilled-out beats seduce us into a world both sacred and profane. Come to the fire.
In “Bonfire Dreaming”, Jay incorporates the mysterious rhythms of the didgeridoo with the musical traditions of many cultures; fusing them with his own, unique style of sensual electronica.
Known by many different names, the didgeridoo is an ancient Australian woodwind instrument – quite possibly the earliest wind instrument known in any culture.
Traditionally made from a log that has been hollowed by termites, it has no finger holes or valves. It is simply a long, open tube. The many complex sounds are created using various tonguing, breathing, and vocalizing techniques, allowing for a fascinating range of rhythms and effects. It is most often played using a technique called “circular breathing” – which allows the musician to play continually, with no apparent breaks in the sound.
With great respect for the indigenous peoples of Australia, Jay plays the didgeridoo in a modern, Western style.

Mix of didgeridoo and other instruments
author: JoelThis is a very enjoyable CD. As a didgeridoo player, I liked the way the instrument was featured and adding instruments as the sitar and percussion made it especially attractive.
Beautiful!!
author: PamI can't listen to this CD without dancing!!!! It's beautiful in all of its mystic and emotional qualities. Thank you Jay for such a skillful mix of exotic Middle Eastern rhythms, the atmosphere of electronica and especially the ancient sound of the didgeridoo.
I LOVE IT!

A STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS ALBUM.. ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME!!
author: Gareth KnightThis album has gone straight into my favourites list. It has all the qualities that make an album stand out from the rest. The rythms are nothing short of sexy !! Especially track3 and the richness of sound just makes it the perfect album to put your feet up to after a hard days work. It has haunting mystical melodies and some nicely played earthy Didge numbers. THIS ALBUM IS WICKED!....BUY IT...YOU'LL LOVE IT !!
MAGICAL - and so much more!
author: LoriJoyI'm not sure what I expected. I've bought so many "drumming" CD's that I thought would help evoke the sentiment of being in a drum and dance fire circle. None of them have. Until now. This CD ROCKS. Track 10 brought tears to my eyes. I can't wait for a followup CD.
Play Bonfire Dreaming during your next massage!
author: Anomie, Medical Massage TherapistFor a month now, Bonfire Drumming has been my favorite CD. Jay has done a wonderful job of taking me to so many places with this eclectic music that I have not gotten tired of it yet. Each time I listen I hear something different and travel to a different place. This man is incredible in his ability to fuse all of his talents into a musical meditation. I am a Trigger Point Therapist and Massage Therapist and Bonfire Dreaming has been in the CD player for weeks. I played it for my mother during her massage and she wanted to get up and belly dance. If you enjoy quality music, you MUST have Bonfire Dreaming.
Brilliant and Inspirational
author: Tess BordenBonfire Dreaming is by far one of the most inspiring pieces of music I have heard/owned in a long time. On first play, I was immediately taken with the musicality and the ability to meld the sounds of modern and not-so-modern. Each track is brilliant unto itself, but the album as a whole has me convinced that it is just a matter of time before Jay Atwood and Bonfire Dreaming are household phrases.
An audio journey to exotic worlds.
author: Gannon McHaleThis recording is unlike anything else in my catalogue. It is cinematic, sometimes epic in its ability to transport the listener to exotic, unknown worlds. If you wish to escape to a place you have never previously known, I highly recommend it.
Highly worthwhile
author: Scott B (CT.)I have many didj and trance CDs. This one is clearly the best. Jay doesn't follow any tradition other than his own conscience and voice. Traditional didj rhythms, mixed with drums and techno-mix. Add-in some chanting and zone..... Strategic silence and soft periods keep this from being another annoying techno-drone disc. International flavors make the CD feel like a tour of the world (current and old). Get it. 'nuff said.
Excellent tribal groove!
author: BertaListen to Jay Atwood's Bonfire Dreaming and be prepared to go on an exotic global journey. Middle Eastern rythems and didgeridoo riffs are seemlessly woven into a lush and totally danceable musical landscape that is ancient, yet modern. If you like Afro Celt Sound System, Delerium, Enigma, and Dead Can Dance; this CD is not to be missed!
A clean, crisp and a very mysterious recording
author: PamelaAs a fusion style Belly Dancer, I love this c.d. I find it not Being repetive but very interesting as well as crisp clean mysterious. I cant wait to see him perform with the Wicked Tinkers.
World Beat? Adventure film score? Spirit quest? Whatever it is, "Bonfire" is uni
author: Jim Hull"Bonfire Dreaming" is, frankly, sensational. It took me on a magic carpet ride to another dimension, where World Beat music and other exotic sounds blend into a multi-dimentional -- even spiritual -- musical adventure. Composer Jay Atwood takes certain cultural risks, in this day and age, by blending Middle Eastern sounds and modes into the mix (alongside Australian and electronic sounds), but within moments the listener will be enthralled by the universality of the feelings and sentiments expressed in the music. A sense of mystery, intrigue, even excitement and suspense, pervade the album. The first four cuts should all be on the radio, they're so entrancing and well produced. In fact, the high technical and musical standards made me wonder whether a large staff of musicians and composers put it together, but apparently almost the entire production, from didgeridoos to those strange, eerie hurdy gurdy sounds, were composed and recorded by Mr. Atwood. If so, he's a genius of the first order, and we should keep an eye on him, for no doubt he'll surprise and enchant us with more wonderful sounds in the future. (One of the later cuts shows off Jay's amazing skills on the "didge" and is not to be missed.) Meanwhile, "Bonfire" should be featured on an adventure film score or put into heavy rotation on radio; people merely need to listen to fall in love with it. Hats off to him and his creation, and here's hoping it achieves a wide audience.
This album blew me away! I can't stop listening to it.
author: Jeanette Sartain, Music ProducerEverytime I play it, I hear something new. With its amazing songs, and use of unique instruments from all around the planet, it is the true definition of World Music. In the morning it's great for getting me up and going in a good mood, and in the evening it relaxes and rejuvenates me. Everyone I've played it for has loved it.... It has great passion, and the production is lush and beautiful. Since buying it for myself, I've bought three others as gifts. Hearing it is like going on an exotic vacation.
