notes
Jean Avery was born in Georgia. At the age of three, she started singing in church. She moved to New Jersey and started singing at different venues throughout New Jersey and New York. In 2002 she became one of the Blues Sisters. They performed at Mayfair, an annual music and arts festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as well as various clubs throughout the state.
After that she started The Jean Avery Duo with pianist, Bill Wehbe. The two performed at clubs, restaurants, private parties, weddings, and more.
Jean Avery has a vocal styling that follows the natural path of 20th Century music. She travels from Blues to Gospel, Jazz to Soul, R&B to Mowtown, Pop and even Classic Rock! She brings to live some of the greatest songs of all time in a cabaret style show that includes everything from Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. She covers so many different styles of music that she is able to entertain audiences of every kind and in any setting.
In addition to her vocal talents, Jean is an active model and studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has had roles in tv, films, theatre, and commercials. She is perhaps most recognizable for her role in a popular Essence Magazine commercial.
Her new CD, "It's About Time" is a culmination of her musicial career - featuring songs that span ages and genres - yet appeal to just about everyone. Enjoy!
