notes

In the few short years since penning her first song, Boston-based singer/songwriter Juliet Lloyd has quickly gained a name for herself as an accomplished songwriter with an irresistible blend of classic soul/R&B grooves, jazzy harmonies, and pop sensibilities. She won awards from both Billboard Magazine and Berklee College of Music for two of her earliest songs, was chosen as a semi-finalist in 2005’s Acoustic Live competition in Los Angeles, and also in 2005 was invited to take part in the prestigious NY Songwriters’ Circle. Her debut album, All Dressed Up (released in April 2005), featured 9 original songs and garnered immediate comparisons to, among others, Steely Dan, Prince, Alicia Keys, and Carole King. Reviewers praised her “soulful songwriting prowess” and “well-crafted lyrics” (Metronome Magazine), while fans consistently marveled at the fact that not a single track on the album is worth skipping – a rarity in today’s single-driven marketplace.

In their October 2005 cover story, Boston’s Metronome Magazine wrote “Juliet's songs offer the kind of music that should be heard in every club and venue throughout New England and beyond.” Venue by venue, city by city, Juliet is doing just that – bringing her songs to all who will listen. With plans for the follow up album already in motion, and the summer of 2006 rapidly filling up with festival dates and more touring, fans of this emerging artist have much to look forward to in the coming months.

I'm French and I discovered Juliet Lloyd on the web. I'm very happy having found her because she's a real artist, her voice, her music, her lycris and her songs are very beautiful. Her album is wonderful and I wait her new Cd without patience. I hope one day, I'd can see this singer in live. Good luck for the future to this great singer.

  • Great Experience

Loved the whole experience w/ CD Baby. Saw Juliet live at the Lilac Festival on 5/20 and am still loving my new cd, all of it, especially No Ones Anything and All Dressed Up!

  • Organic Soul Music
author: E Smith: Rochester, New York

I can tell this is heart felt soul music from Juliet. It has an earthy organic soulful feel to it. It's just what I need to relax and have a smile during a drive on a comfortable sunny day. Her lyrics are catchy and easy to relate to. Her band is adequate in backing her. A good mesh of well written lyrics and music. Green Eyed soul for sure. I originally heard No One's Anything on WJZR 105.9,and purchased the album. I'm anticipating that the live performances are just as groovy, complete, and solid as the album is. See you at Lilac Fest 2007! Nice work Juliet and crew. Keep it up.

  • Almost perfect
    author: KJones

This cd is almost perfect. Juliet has a superb voice, and writes intelligent and original pieces. I question the arrangement on some songs, which is the only reason this album doesn't get 5 stars. If you enjoyed Juliet's mp3's on her website, then you will enjoy this album.

  • Juliet is beyond amazing!

I only need to hear the first few notes of Lullaby and All Dressed Up and the warmest smile curves my lips. Juliet is so incredibly talented and I'm thrilled to have found her this past year.

I heard Juliet playing in Boston by the farmer's market stands for the 1st time. I bought her CD that day and absolutely love her music. The lyrics move me, speak to me and her voice just sends me. Can't wait to see her live sometime in a venue.

I saw Juliet perform live a few days ago and I was stunned. I bought her CD on the spot, and I must say that her songs are fantastic. Very well composed, beutiful melodies and changes. The songs "ever after" and "no one's anything", "all dressed up" are amazing. I hear jill scott, alicia keys in Juliets music.. This young woman will go very very far. I can feel the grammy coming. best of luck !!!

  • Another Nora Jones
    author: Capt John

This CD is a great example of the synergy of a compelling voice,a straight forward arrangement, and a basic jazz combo. Juliet's lyrics are hearfelt and honest, her delivery is provacative, and her instrumental work sparkles. You'll enjoy it.

This CD is incredible from the 1st tune to the last she mixes it up so well but never faulters. She is a very talented young musician and songwriter and has an amazing voice. Looking forward to seeing her live and also see what comes next from Miss Lloyd

  • Soul Sista
    author: Willis

This girl has the pipes, the fingers, and the snap to make these kids today actually enjoy talented singer songwriters again. And yes she has one of the best voices I've heard, and she's real cute too! If you haven't bought her album by now, her album will buy you.

  • Absolutely amazing, Great Jazz, Great addition to the collection.
    author: Magnus Champlin

This CD is full of Absolutely Amazing songs. Every song on this CD is as poweful and expressive as the previous one. It's a sad trend in todays Muscians to have one or two songs that are good on a CD, and the rest feel as filler. With Juliet's gifted songwriting and voice it is a CD that is already on my most favorite (which is my most played) list. Solid from start to finish. Brilliant rich jazz tones and a sultry voice from this beautiful green-eyed lady make this CD a must have for anyone who loves music.

  • Great!
    author: Katie

Very good has great background music and her voice is incredible

  • Sweet Pop Jazz
    author: Charlene Arsenault, Worcester Magazine

In the same vein as Alicia Keys, Norah Jones (and occasionally Steely Dan), Lloyd plays piano pop rooted in jazz sensibilities. With a sultry voice, she moves these rich piano gems. At once these tunes are jazz, soul and pop that grind along sexily. They are a cat sneaking along the fence posts, a desperate run through a thunderstorm to get a love back, a slow dance ... the perfect complement to "date night." Light the candles, pop the cork and make sure the sheets are clean.

  • Great Songs with a Knockout Voice!
    author: Chris Bryan

My favorite part about the CD is that it’s solid from start to finish. There is no lull in the order and I never need to skip a track – buy one and you’ll see it’s one of those albums you can put in and enjoy straight through. Plus her songs are catchy and accessible on just one listen. “Ever After” opens the disc and lets you know what Juliet is all about. Her warm, inviting, yet technically brilliant voice is featured along with guitar and piano with rich jazz influences, while the bass and drums really drive the song. The title track is my favorite, mostly because the melody is just so great, and because I love the string quartet introduction. “Before Me” is probably the most impressive song; I think her singing is at it’s best here, and the lyrics are simple but clever. And “Lonely Street” is almost a pure jazz song but I personally find it alluring, almost chilling!
