notes
Since the release of his debut Album, "Down With The Ship," John Hickey has firmly established himself as a key player in the funk world. This past year he has been busy touring with The John Hickey Band, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Bernie Worrell and the WOO Warriors, recording the next studio album, as well as recording live gigs. His most recent album, The John Hickey Band Live is a compilation of these recordings and is a snapshot of a constantly developing band. Members of the John Hickey Band have played with a veritable who's who in the Funk world. Keyboardist Gregg Fitz, whose soulful vocals and inspired keyboard playing undoubtedly leaves its mark on the album, honed his skills with the likes of Bootsy Collins, Sly Stone, Cameo, and countless others. William "Perk" Puryear (Funkin, The Eddie Hazel Band) holds down the bass. Troy White gives a whole new meaning to the term "hellified drumming." And rounding out the group is Cissy Fitz who has played and recorded with Bernie Worrell & the WOO Warriors, Garry Shieder & the Toys. This solid funk foundation provided by the band combined with John's blistering guitar work makes listening to the John Hickey Band a truly electric experience.

Excellent live performances from one the funkiest bands around.
author: Edward Livingston (aka Mista Ed)John Hickey, leader of the group is an immenseley gifted guitarist and songwriter - but his assembled band of funksters are stellar talents as well. Having seen them live several times, I can attest that this live cd perfectly captures the energy, musicianship and the funk of their performances.
These guys tear it up!!!!
author: funk fan 4 everEmotional guitar solos...interesting, fresh songs...influences worn on sleeve, they often sound like their mentors...I also wish, as previous review states, that some of the insane P-Funk songs they kill on live in person were represented. Maybe the next live release can be ALL covers!? What a fantastic band!
Bad Ass Funk
author: Mark from PhillyThis showcases the Hickey band's originals, which are insanely nasty and funky, but I was a little dissappointed to find that the P Funk covers they do so well are nowhere to be found. Either way, these guys tear it up, with Perk and Badass laying down funky ass grooves and Daffy and Hickey jammin away like they're posessed. Like funk? Like fast, awesome guitar? Do yourself a favor and check these guys out, you'll thank yourself in the morning.
John Hickey is the bomb!
