(Hey, you can get this on iTunes!)
Performing is still fairly new to Joy. She hasn't been writing since she could hold a pen, and her life as a musician is only three years young. The Pittsburgh-grown, Nigerian musician has a style that is very confused about itself. Her sound is a mix of neo-soul, jazz, pop, and indie and has often been compared to artists such as, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, as well as newcomers Corinne Bailey Rae and Amy Winehouse.
In 2007 Joy Ike was voted 2nd for "Best Solo Artists" by the Pittsburgh City Paper and noted as "one of the artists [who] will ultimately be responsible for placing Pittsburgh's music scene firmly on the map," by Allhiphop.com.
Joy Ike's music has often been recognized for its lyrical depth- addressing social issues and universal subject matters of love, loneliness, and the search for God. "I'm hoping to say what most people are thinking but nobody will admit."
Aside from her serious attitude about the world and her music, her awkward sense of humor and the occasional bad note are the less intense, more comical shortcomings of a 24-year-old who claims she's trying to save the world.

Like Freshly Brewed Coffee
by The Parenthesis Project

Ike’s soulful voice is like jazz cream in freshly brewed coffee; waking one up with aromas you can’t see but sense coming... whole review: http://theparenthesisproject.wordpress.com/2008/07/23/we-like-ike/#more-79
