notes

"The Juggernaut boys are at it again! Roscoe Goose, World Wide Webb, Gil Fish, and Big Daddy have produced a recording drawing heavily from the jugband and early jazz past and updated the repertoire with some fine new tunes and romps."
- Tom Druckenmiller/Sing Out! Volume 46 #3

  • Disturbance or mastership?

Juggernaut Jug is a fantastic band. It's safe and secure to bye there albums, because they are never bad. In my opinion "Jugstaposition" is not there best one. But still a good one. Theres fewer collours on the palettee than usual. This one is more steady going on a marked direction. It's surely a pleasure for every one who like the central style of Juggernaut Jug. I geuss some will enjoy to just get the thing, wothout "disturbing" turn-outs. Maby this album also is more serious, with a little less of the crazy comic. A collection of good music - and that's it. But of course: that's enough. And to be precise, its not quite without the mad and funny elements. Theres just a little less of it. But thoose who like the funny stuff will enjoy the version of Dylan's "Desolation Row" with elements of "Ghostriders In The Sky". And the old the way crazy "Hamburger Pie". But the main concept is something else. Many of the tracks creates a thruly beautifull atmospheare of good time/funny mood with melancolic/sentimental dimensions. My favorite Juggernaut album, "Don't Try This At Home", reminds me of Max Brothers. "Jugstaposition" is probaly more Jack Lemon. Thinking of it that way the parts of madness, perhabs really are a disturbin matter. If the two dimensional line that make songs as "Jug Band Tango", "Wahboard Highway" and "Sheik of Araby/Sweet Sue" so wonderfull were done with consequence, it would have made "Jugstaposition" a masterpiece. Instead it's just a good album. But that have a huge value. There are not that many good albums, but a lot of awfull things. So better apreciate every good one!

  • Bought 3 at Oakboro Music Hall, and ordered the other two. Sure love the music!

Now have 5 Juggernaut CDs, and would rank them all my number one favorites. I am 70 years old, and when just 8 or 10, a group of 3 older blacks would play from the back of a truck each Saturday. Peg Jackson on harmonica, Pink on an old tin gituar, and Washboard on the Washboard and bells. Same exact sound--songs like I Got Mine, and Greasy Greens were popular with them. They just played for coins tossed. Great music! Hadn't found the music again till I saw Juggernauts!

  • I haven't had so much fun in a month of Sundays!

I was browsing the CD Baby site recently in the jazz/ragtime categories. I happened upon this cd and listened to song clips. I was immediately hooked! Such creative instrumentation and enthusiastic renditions of a variety of songs. Hamburger Pie is my hands down favorite -- it's quirky genius! Listen to the clip, you'll hear what I mean.
