notes
#3 CD of 2003!
“Warm, simple arrangements frame and complement LaShae’s angelic voice on an intimate program that exudes sophistication and charm. Her precise phrasing, pure tone and sunny disposition make “Introducing…Julia LaShae” the vocal event of the year.”
-Keith Spera - The Times-Picayune, New Orleans
“It’s refreshing to hear a modern jazz crooner who doesn’t sound like a B-grade Vegas vocalist. …The CD has found its way onto my player at various times, but mostly when seeking something soothing and calm. …If you’re seeking music to lull you into a mood, this is the ticket.”
-Gary Miller - Atomic
“Vocalist Julia LaShae’s classy debut is a nice little Valentine’s treat.”
-Michael Dominici - Where Y’at
“Straight from the classics of the American songbook comes this sultry torch singer with the flaming red hair and the face that could launch a thousand ships. And a voice that’s as sweet and lovely as the talented chanteuse projecting it.”
-Dean M. Shapiro - Offbeat
Julia LaShae and her jazz combo perform at many private functions, as well as some of the finest hotels and restaurants in New Orleans, Austin, and San Antonio, including Café Sbisa, the Bombay Club, Lune Fine Music Club, the Y Bar & Restaurant, Manuel's Downtown, and Truluck's. In her other life as an actress she has appeared in television shows and on the big screen in feature films including Tempted starring Burt Reynolds, The Life of David Gale starring Kevin Spacy, Love Liza starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Because of Winn Dixie starring Jeff Daniels, Last Holiday starring Queen Latifah, and the upcoming Deja Vu starring Denzel Wahington.

Julia Lashae
author: Bill WilbertLaShae,s sultry vocals (kind of a combination of Rosemary Clooney and Julie London) blend perfectly with the accompanying musicians and the standards. The song selections are an excellent blend of the usual (eg, "How Long Has This Been Going On?", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love") and the too rarely heard (eg, "Blue Skies", How High the Moon") But the star of the album is the rhythm section, particularly the pianist. One minor downer -- The trumpet/fleugelhorn player is at times too loud and obtrusive; a cup mute would have helped. All in all, a very good album that only misses being excellent by an occasionally-trumpet that is too loud. Recommended. Bill Wilbert New Braunfels, TX
WONDERFUL !!!
author: Sheri PerkinsTHIS CD IS GREAT !! LOOKING FORWARD TO MS LaShae's next production !!
May have to take a trip to New Orleans!
author: Paula SperryLove the voice, love the selections. I heard Julia LaShae's Midnight Sun while streaming at work. I kept running to the computer everytime I heard a song by her, until it dawned on me that I needed to own this CD..The musical background is excellent with the right blend of instruments. Few vocalists blend as well as Ms. LaShae's does with her band. The CD took me back to my father's jazz band in the early '60s. I hope to hear more from her and this band someday - perhaps I can fly to New Orleans and catch them live. PS. I work at a community radio station ( www.womr.org ) Is it possible to get a copy for our jazz DJ's to play at the station?
Lovely to look at, Delightful to hear!
author: Cathy CarterI'm impressed with the quality of Julia's voice and the instruments on this CD. Because I am a 'once upon a time' Chick Singer, her vocals remind me of my club days, and listening to Chris Conners, June Christy, and a little known Anita O'Day. Having found their venue, I would like to see this CD become a 'must' for all jazz lovers, and lovers of jazz vocals.
