notes
"Kiss the Ground" is a colorful pastiche ranging from mystical Persian sounds and gypsy cabaret styles to solo piano confessionals and ballads with strings. Kamile's vocals are at once vulnerable and ballsy, poignant and rapturous.
The album is a collaboration between Kamile Kapel and world class multi-instrumentalist Joseph "Pepe" Danza who plays everything from bamboo flutes to Latin acoustic guitar and psychedelic electric guitar to multi-layered percussion solos. Seven of the songs are based on poems by the Persian mystic poets Rumi and Hafiz.
In the title track, Kapel sings, "Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened. Don't open the door to the study and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument and kiss the ground." -Rumi
Kamile Kapel started out as an actress until she discovered that the piano she'd been playing since she was eight made a great prop. She began performing around Vancouver in what people perceived as a one woman show--telling impromptu stories, gonging Tibetan bells, whispering secretively and then wailing from the depths of her soul.
She sang and played her piano at coffee shops, clubs and theatres in Vancouver, California, and India, eliciting both laughter and tears with her confessional, often comedic songs.
"Kiss the Ground" is an ambitious first release as well as a significant contribution to the cause of exposing Rumi to a world that is hungry for his wisdom and his love.

Engaging, charismatic, thoughtful, whimsical and mystical. That's Kamile!
author: Dax BeWow! Amazing renditions of Rumi, but what really catches me is her "Hoax Tattoo"( which i've had the pleasure of singing with her). That is one of my top one hundred songs of all time. The music reveals so much about Kamile and she owns those words that are hundreds of years old like few others could or would dare to.
Excellent CD, one of the best I heard in a long time.
author: SophieI wanted to tell you that your cd is great, great lyrics, music and the vibes, wow!! I got to listen to your cd through a friend of mine. She met you last year in B.C. as she was then living there, she brought the cd back with her. I am from Aylmer, Québec and unfortunaltely there is no store that sells your cd here, I realise it is mainly distributed on he west coast. Whenever you will release another cd, I would love to know about it as I will order it from you. I find your music very inspiring and soothing, I had not felt like this about an album in a long time (I am 40 years old), not my first album. I thank you for your time and your music, may God keep you always in is divine light.
Quirky, catchy, fun!
author: Trance BlackmanQuite the blend of styles. You can feel the musical theatre influence. Nice choice of instruments in the mix. Well done!
