notes

Award-winning composer Karen Dalton's first release, Songs for Hire, is a blend of bluegrass and folk. Performed by Kevin Neidig of Voxology, Songs for Hire highlights Karen's skill as a songwriter and shows why Marshall Deasy, owner of Stress Free Studios, says,"Karen's sincere, well-written songs will certainly turn ears in today's acoustic must scene."

Two songs from Songs for Hire have been played on WXPN-Philadelphia. The first song on the CD, "I've Been to Paris," has been played on Gene Shay's folk show. "Milky Way" was played on Sleepy Hollow, hosted by Chuck Elliot. Mr. Elliot played "I've Been to Paris" when he sat in for Mr. Shay.

Karen has been awarded a grant in music composition from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, has been named a winner of the Heady Robinson Award for achievement in the field of music theory by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and is endorsed by Breezy Ridge Instruments, makers of John Pearse strings and accessories.

Selections from Songs for Hire have been played on college radio and on Internet radio.

  • Awesome Acoustical Album
    author: Graham

Keep it short eh? well ok, I just wanted to say how much i like this album, has very catchy acoustical songs, it's kind of country and folk? i think, but its a very varied album considering it only has five tracks, the songs all have a sense of dispare to them, great vocals(although none by Karen Dalton herself), my favourite has to be 'bounty', which somehow manages to change pace from fast to slow again and again, and it sounds awesome. The music will have some affect on you, wierdly, every single song on this album makes me think about something that happened to me, and i only heard these songs in full one day ago, strange they all have a certain feeling to them, arghh, i'#m not so good at this reviewing thing, i like this cd a lot anyway. there, done. :P
