(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

(NO CD's left, but feel free to buy MP3's or download from iTunes, Napster, etc.) STOP, you've found what you're looking for. Great Acoustic Pop/Rock with catchy melodies. Beatles-ish, with similarities to Squeeze, Matthew Sweet, Crowded House.

notes

(No CD's left, but please feel free to download MP3's, or go to iTunes, Napster, etc.)

In the 2002 and 2003 Billboard Songwriting Contests, David Karp had 5 out of 6 entries make the Top 1500 Songs in the Pop category! David Karp, from Long Island, New York, has been playing and writing music since age 15. In the early 90's, David played extensively throughout NY in various bands and later solo café gigs in the late 90's. Since then, David has recorded 3 CD's and collaborated with several fellow LI musicians.

David can be seen on Long Island's Cablevision Channel 20 performing original acoustic songs as part of Art Jam and can also be heard from time to time on WUSB 90.1 FM (www.wusb.org).

David's music is a mix of Pop/Rock with an Acoustic Singer/Songwriter edge. His songs have been compared to such bands as Squeeze, Crowded House, and Matthew Sweet, with, of course, influences from The Beatles.

David's latest CD, Return To Zero, is available at performances, select LI record stores, and at www.cdbaby.com . All tracks on Return To Zero were written, performed and recorded by David.

Great CD. It's been in my player for weeks and I still love these catchy tunes! The Dip Dip song and Lonely I are my faves. Highly recommended!

  • 'Zero' adds up to a lot!

'Return to Zero," the latest disc from East Northport tunesmith David Karp, is what they call a "grower." After a couple of listens, these simple pop songs grow on you, and the hummable melodies and concise guitar riffs start to seem pleasantly familiar. Karp, 36, sticks to the basics: voice, guitars, drums. The album isn't produced, exactly - more like simply put to tape. (Or hard drive, as the case may be.) It's a low-budget approach, but it also lets the songs stand on their own with no distractions. That can work both ways. "Like to Say" has a nice, bittersweet chord in the middle of its bright hook, and "The Dip Dip Song" crafts a nice ditty out of the doubled syllables in the title. Elsewhere, however, Karp falls into some familiar traps, neglecting to fill dead space in his verses and falling back on romantic cliches (rain on windows, the stars, etc.). But the better part of these nine tracks is spiffy enough to earn another spin (or three). Check out www.geocities.com/davidkarp2001.

  • Awesome Album

This album is very upbeat and GREAT to listen to. There are songs on this album that standout. The songs that were absolutely outstanding are Wasting Away the Afternoon, The Dip Dip song, and Maybe I'm Just Wrong. The other songs are also VERY GOOD, but those 3 just left a lasting impression. I recommend this album and think everyone should have it in their collection, they will not be disappointed. Can't wait for the next album!!!!

  • Infectious pop songs for the thinking person
    author: Theresa

I was first turned on to David Karp a year ago and now I'm a huge fan. Like his previous cd's, this contains several introspective, but not heavy, catchy and upbeat pop songs. Each song stands on it's own. The chorus of Wasting Away the Afternoon keeps creeping into my head... same with Lonely I, Dip Dip Song and Maybe I'm Just Wrong. Yes, definitely infectious, like chocolate for the ears! It will be in my cd player for a long time.
