notes
Kat Mills is a radiant, class-act songwriter showcasing the raw energy of a single voice and acoustic guitar. A powerful range, vintage instrument, and inspiring soulful material combine to produce a clean honest sound that leaves audiences wanting more. Reminiscent of another time, commenting on today, Kat is currently based out of Blacksburg, VA and tours throughout the east and beyond.
Born and raised in Metro D.C., by age 15 Kat’s commitment to performing convinced her father to give her his ’68 Martin and she began writing songs. She moved to the Hudson Valley of New York for college, and ended up staying in the area ten years. There she nurtured her growing repertoire of folk-inspired skills and a loyal Northeast following—first with popular bluegrass band, Grass, and then with the bare and moving solo show she is known for. Highlight appearances in the last year have included The Rosendale Café (NY), Focus Inn Concert Series (DC) and Floyd Fest (VA).
Kat Mills stands out in the world of acoustic women as soon as she starts singing. This rich alto voice is the foundation of her show. Fans mention echoes of Joan Armatrading. The original tunes walk a tightrope between laughter and tears: sometimes hard-driving commentaries, sometimes mellow reflections or funny stories. A bit of twang here, a taste of smoky soul there—always from the heart. Her music elevates the mood and invites thought without beating listeners over the head.
Equally at home in an intimate listening room or on a festival stage, this performer goes the extra mile to please venue staff and audiences alike. You will remember Kat Mills because she is passionate, experienced, and a pleasure to work with. She understands the delicate balance of business and art, and she loves to be up there. Kat Mills is a class act.

Incredibly catchy and never less than lyrically brilliant
author: Ben MorseKat Mills has a rare gift for composing classic and infectious tunes with thoughtful lyrics that are never awkward or forced. Each track flows with natural beauty, and where her vision is critical it does not wallow in cynicism but instead offers hope. This is bluegrass at its best and is accessible to all ears!
A sophisticated and killer follow-up to Longtime
author: Kat Mills TwoEnhanced production is self-evident here. Melancholy at times with a folksie-bluegrass edge... and a surprisingly spiritual number at the close (almost a good Christmas song, if that's okay to say)? Kudos to that rythm guitar!
