Bandleader and Clarinet player Gustavo Bulgach was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina learning Klezmer music from his family at a young age, adds the original and soulful sound of the traditional Klezmer Clarinet, that "laughing-Crying Yiddische soul". Many great things have been said about Gustavo's playing, but we think that the music speaks for itself... Just give us a try!

In 2004, KLEZMER JUICE worked in the NEW LINE CINEMA'S new comedy movie called THE WEDDING CRASHERS starring OWEN WILSON, VINCE VAUGHN AND CHRISTOPHER WALKEN. The movie is scheduled to be released in the Spring of 2005. Their version of the HAVA NAGILA is to be included in the soundtrack CD.

"I heard these Jewish tunes and thought of them as THE BLUES - as happy music in rebellion against hard times, as festive music to celebrate the faith and get through the reality".

Papirosen is one of my all-time favorite Yiddish songs, and Track Number 2 of this Klezmer Juice CD is by far the best recording of Papirosen I've ever heard.

  • Definitely Download!!!!! REVIEW of the WEDDING CRASHER'S SOUNDTRACK
    author: Spence D. ign.com

The shining highlight of the entire album, however, is the raucous "Hava Nagilah" as performed by Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson & The Klezmer Juice Band. Granted Vaughn and Wilson's performance is more or less relegated to the opening shout of "mazel tov!" and mumbled Jewish phrases, so the real joy comes from the bouncing klezmer antics of the band themselves. Sadly, however, this little gem is just that: a little gem that lasts a paltry 1-minute and 15-seconds. More inclusions such as this would have given the album a much warmer, more intimate aura, not to mention a more emotional connection to the film itself.

  • This album IS a must for the Klezmer fans.
author: Walter Brinham, Producer, Israel National Radio

With the popularity of Klezmer bands increasing, several new disks have arrived on my desk lately. One which stands out is Klezmer Juice led by Gustavo Bulgach and his singing clarinet. I particularly like the syncopated rhythm of some of his arrangements. This album has something for every mood and IS a must for the Klezmer fans.

  • This is a Review of the song PAPIROSEN, Single of the day September 9, 2006
    author: Jody Whitesides

If you’re listening to the audio you’ll understand straight away that this is a new adventure here. I wouldn’t know this type of music from a hole in the wall, but I will say that I was recently introduced to Klezmer Juice and I was taken aback at the sounds coming off the disc. My first reaction was to think of movie music, but very specialized movie music. In fact, I’d like you to close your eyes. Sit back, take in this melody and it’s back tracks and think about the movie you could associate it with. Ya with me? Okay, when you open your eyes back up read on. I’m thinking about an independent film. One with a crazy plot that involves a metropolitan city in a foreign country. Where there’s a quirky family with a strange past. Then there’s some sort of criminal caper, and it gets their extended family in trouble. Eventually it gets the family into hot water with law enforcement. Of course at the end of the movie the crime is solved, the family is off the hook and everyone goes home happy. Is this what you get? As for me and my current state… You may know that I’m recording a huge Christmas project. Now that I’ve just typed that I realized I’ve totally mixed my religions here in this post. Doh. Well, it is what it is. I’m actually not a very religious person at all. That’s what makes my recording of this 30 songs of holiday music all the much more abnormal. Anyway, I kinda liken the melody and my mental picture of the off-the-wall movie to my state of being with this project. I spent a large portion of yesterday singing. It wiped me out. I’m roughly 18 songs finished. So far the initial reaction to the material has been strong. Much like my reaction to Klezmer Juice. Though none of the project that I’m working on is this quirky. I do really dig this song. I like the movement of the melody, I dig the instrumentation. Its actually all relatively very fresh to me and that puts a smile on my face. If you’re reading this far, I’m betting that you feel it too. So go buy it.

  • invigorates the soul of the klezmer genre without adding any extraneous modern e
    author: Ernest Barteldes, GlobalRhythm.net

This Los Angeles-based band invigorates the soul of the klezmer genre without adding any extraneous modern elements to it. The band appeared in the recent Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson hit comedy Wedding Crashers, and their version of “Hava Nagila” was included on the film's soundtrack. On this disc, they run through a catalog of high-spirited party favorites that will provide diehard klezmer fans and relative newcomers alike with plenty of foot-tapping moments. Particular attention should be paid to the “Waltz Medley,” which blends four traditional songs, linking them with a maniac 3/4 beat, and “Zemer Atik,” an energetic track, recorded in one take, that encourages the listener to get up and dance. On the other hand, the band has also recorded the beautiful and touching “Ofyn Pripetshik,” a song that became an anthem for the Jewish survivors of WWII and which, according to the album's liner notes, is “a cry for understanding and respect.”

  • A melodically rich klezmer set, centered around the deft, playful clarinet work
    author: DJ Joe Sixpack// Slipcue.com

A melodically rich klezmer set, centered around the deft, playful clarinet work of Gustavo Bulgach, an Argentinian now living in Los Angeles. This is a numble, youthful band, more fluid, perhaps, than some better-known, more traditional groups... They don't stray too far off the path, though, and this will sound familiar as well as fun. More of the same, but definitely worth checking out if you're into the style.

  • Gustavo captures the secret Gypsy soul of Klezmer!
    author: MiguelATF

A wonderful album from a gifted musician. Gustavo brings expressiveness, energy and major improvisational chops to his interpretations of some classic Klezmer pieces - and in doing so, he goes back to the earliest roots of the Klezmorim - the travelling Jewish musicians who went across every country in Europe - and who often intermingled and played with their musical cousins the Gypsies. In the opening piece, Ot Azoi, Gustavo cleverly has his rhythm section give an underlying syncopated swing to the piece which is part traditional Cajun, part Calypso - and totally wonderful. Later, in Zemer Atik, he explores the middle eastern roots of Klezer music - and shows why, musically speaking, Jew, Arab and Gentile are really brothers. I could go on and on but at a certain point words lose their precision - and the important thing is: this music ROCKS. 21st Century Klezmer soul with some syncopated gypsy swing - what a combination. A fine addition to anyone's CD collection - whether you are a hardcore Klezmer Music maniac (like yours truly) - or merely someone who loves wonderful electic world music. Bravo, Gustavo!

  • Owen, Vince and The Klezmer Juice Band rendition of the HAVA NAGILAH
    author: Billboard Magazine

Billboard - July 2, 2005 - p. 44 "With quirky bonuses like Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's rendition of "Hava Nagilah" with the Klezmer Juice Band, Linn says New Line is looking to do "as much commercial-radio stunt promotion as we can" with the soundtrack. "We may have 'Hava Nagila' cut into programming or kind of crash conventional radio."

Klezmer Juice is the real thing - vibrant Yiddish soul combined with youth and musical style. Bringing together some of LA's finest musicians from all walks of life, Bulgach has managed to forge a new klezmer sound with one ear to tradition and the other locked on the now. • Bulgach's Clarinet is much more expressive than his heros
author: George Robinson, The Jewish week (NY)

When a band’s first CD namechecks Giora Feidman and Vincius de Moraes, it’s hard to know what to expect. The faintly Brazilian flavor of the band’s sound with its underpinning of accordion and nylon-string guitar obviously derives from Vincius, and the rather mechanical rhythms of “Ot Azoi” and “Papirosn” are certainly reminiscent of Feidman, but Bulgach’s clarinet is much more expressive than his hero’s. He’s not afraid to play dirty gutbucket growls that would never come out of Feidman’s horn and as the set goes on, the rhythm section begins to cook too. Rating: YYYY

  • this is a wonderful debut album, and one that I'll enjoy listening to for a long
    author: Ari Davidow/Klezmer shack

I really have problems with bands that (to my ears) overly emphasize the beat. I think of dancing as gliding, or moving in rhythm, not going "chunka chunka thumpa thumpa." On the other hand, this album really sparkles (and 20 million country music albums can't all be wrong about the rhythm thang.) I love Bulgach's clarinet playing, nor are the accordion or guitar shabby, neither. The opening "Ot Azoi" swings, despite the thumpa thumpa. Bulgach swings lyrically into "Papirosen" and then rips into a freylach more smoothly than anyone I've heard since the Epstein Brothers moved to a higher venue. If not for the rhythm section, I'd be in heaven. It's only during changes when the rhythm section feels like it's playing with the band, not reading charts. And yet, even so, I wouldn't miss this for the world. This band is fun. The mix is familiar: lots of klezmer, old Yiddish theatre and folk favorites like "Papirosn" or "Dona Dona" and "Tum Balalaika", with more modern Israeli dance and folk tunes ("Nigun Atik", Eli Eli). Even though the clarinet playing overwhelms, this isn't your Krakauer ego pyrotechnics. Rather, Bulgach really seems to get the songs and how to play for an audience. This is the warmest, friendliest, liquid clarinet playing I have heard in a long time. When the guitar takes the lead, as on the intro to "Oyfn Pripetshok", with the accordion picking up the next verse it is also clear that the rest of the band is equally facile. I should also mention the rather fantastic cover, and remember to complain about a lack of song credits. Overall, this is a wonderful debut album, and one that I'll enjoy listening to for a long time. Highly recommended.

  • Gustavo Bulgach: Thank's for excellent Soul musicians Special thank's for this beautiful music and thank you to because you are a very special persona and also for the inspiration to keep the jewish spirit alive and intact. Walter

  • this guys rock (kosher style?)
    author: radio listen

Klezmer Juice is really good... it is the way Giora Feidman started almost 30 years ago and nobody could follow... This represents to me what the Argentinian soul is all about... Argentinian musicians are so passionate about their influences... so powerful! Maybe this is what Piazzolla and Feidman (among others) wanted to create for the future generations, music with passion and heart. Bulgach can make his carinet sing with outstandng control and feeling. Mario Hill. NYC

  • This CD really captures the emotion of the Klezmer Soul!
    author: Robert Tolapinsky

I got this CD from a friend of mine, a world music fan (an a NON JEW), saying that this album is the best thing he heard since long time ago... I came back home and inmediately played it in my CD player...Its been 5 weeks since then...The last time something like this got my full attention was JOHN COLTRANE´S A LOVE SUPREME! and the music is so diFferent, so soulful! Gustavo Bulgach is incredible... He´s clarinet palying is so personal and so faithful to the style... I called him expecting to speak to a mature musician... But He´s only 38 years old! Dancing music all over the CD and, at the same time, very profound as well... The young will dance along with the elderly... and the tradition will get its full turn once again. The track ELI ELI is timeless...the instrumentation is so unique, it transport you someplace else. Bravo KLEZMER JUICE! R.T.
