notes
Guitarist/Composer Jonathan Kreisberg was born in New York City. "I was lucky to grow up in a household that had a great and wide record collection including Coltrane's My Favorite Things, John Williams playing the Aranjuez Concierto and Cream's Disraeli Gears." While still a child his family moved to Miami, where at age 10 he began playing the guitar. Originally inspired by a range of music, his early studies focused on Rock and Classical guitar as well as music theory. At age 16 he was featured in Guitar Player Magazine for his original music, and was also accepted to the New World School of the Arts where his jazz studies took center stage. He began an intense practice schedule and by the time he graduated high school he had been featured in Down Beat Magazine and had received a scholarship to the University of Miami Jazz program. At U of M he held the chair as guitarist for the acclaimed Concert Jazz band, touring Brazil and performing with Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, and Red Rodney.
Upon graduation, Jonathan began playing straight ahead jazz gigs as well as a myriad of other projects. He performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. He also recorded a C.D. and performed extensively with progressive rock group Third Wish. He formed the electric jazz oriented Jonathan Kreisberg Trio. Based in Miami, this Trio released a C.D. and completed several U.S. East Coast tours, which included opening slots for George Benson and Steve Morse. He also gave clinics at music schools as well as teaching private lessons.
In 1997 he returned to his birthplace in NYC with his focus on cutting edge acoustic jazz. "In my Miami Trio it was about coming up with new textures and being communicative while still playing intense musically. When I moved to New York I really wanted to hide in bars and work out melodies and harmonies. In a way it was a selfish period for me, but I feel I have much more to offer now." This also coincided with a renewed interest in the jazz tradition. "I find that the deeper I go into the tradition the more possibilities I become aware of in the future."
He has since performed in the groups of Joel Frahm, Greg Tardy, Jeff Andrews, Josh Roseman, Roy Nathanson (Jazz Passengers), Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Yosvany Terry, and Lenny White, as well as leading his own groups of various instrumentations.
He is currently performing, composing, and teaching in New York City as well as playing concerts and teaching workshops internationally.

A very important album . . .
author: JamieKreisberg's interpretation of these standards, his bebop-inflected solos and intricate, pianistic chordal work, and the interplay with the responsive and tasteful rhythm section has got me excited about jazz guitar again! This album is going to change the way I play guitar and for that reason is the most important jazz album I have ever bought. Life-changing
if you play jazz guitar, buy this album
author: guitaristThis is my first Jonathan Kreisberg cd and I love it. If you like players that are more subtle and exploitory such as Jim Hall, Scofield, or Bill Frisell. Check this guy out.

Awesome
author: matt wTotally amazing jazz guitar. I highly recommend this album as well as any other by Mr. Kreisberg.
Tasteful and virtuosic
author: Glenn BrownI'll keep it brief...excellent technique, and from a musician with something good to say. Like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jonathan is an excellent and inspring young jazz musician. This CD is an exellent place to start, and I'd also recommend Nine Stories Wide
Fine Album...
author: M. A. PatersonThis is an outstanding outing by the fresh new guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg. He and his band strike a perfect balance between traditional and modern guitar trio sounds. Weidenmueller has a fine approach, reminiscient of the melodicism of Charlie Hayden and Ari Hoenig is a master of swing. The few opportunities that I've had to see him have been breathtaking - his control of his instrument is superb. Kriesberg himself is no slouch either: he mixes a comprehensive knowledge of the bebop vocabulary with more modern harmonic innovations. Highly recommended!
Incredible Must Have!
author: Jeremy W. ThomasThis CD is a must have! Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, Bassist Johannes Weidenmueller and last but definitely NOT least, drummer Ari Hoenig(also check out his solo drum cd's, this guy is a motherf**ker on the drums! ), are sooooooo tight and are killing(uh,musically) on this album! Kreisberg's clean tone, smooth technique and most importantly "goose bump" feel is just uplifting and inspiring to say the least. Keep an eye and ear out for all these guys 'cause I have a feeling they will be some of the new "legends" of our time! Whew, I need to take a nap after absorbing/listening this one!
get it while you can...
beautiful playing from all 3 musicians, excellent production...a fitting addition to the 'trio' genre. as all 3 players become better know as individuals (and they surely deserve it!), copies of this CD will be highly sought.
...this guy makes me wanna go and practice, and i'v been practicing for most of the day... ...amazing musician, i can not belive that i haven't heard of him before...

Outstanding Jazz
If you like modern versions of straight-ahead jazz, then you will love this CD. No smooth jazz this, but some of the most thoughtful arrangements I've heard or lesser known standards. The playing is reminiscent of Abercrombie at times, definitely one of my best CD purchases this year.
