With a fresh blend of original, jazz-tinged acoustic music and a truly mesmerizing voice, Los Angeles-based Kristy Hanson is an unforgettable performer and songwriter. She has charmed audiences all over the country with her powerful and intimate performances, making loyal fans wherever she goes.
Recently, Kristy recorded her third independent album in Los Angeles with longtime partner and bassist Mike Chiaburu, engineer Ryan Freeland (Aimee Mann, Lisa Loeb, Jonatha Brooke) and drummer Jay Bellerose (Paula Cole, Ani DiFranco, Madeleine Peyroux). The album will be released later this year.
Kristy has performed across the country at such well-known listening rooms as L.A.’s Knitting Factory and Chicago’s Uncommon Ground, and has been featured on several radio shows, including Mitch Albom’s nationally syndicated show out of Detroit. Recently, Kristy was second runner-up in Michigan’s “World Series of Rock,” performed at Grand Rapids' Blues on the Mall festival, and was featured at a showcase at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis. A proudly independent female artist, she helped book, promoted and performed in the 2005 Indiegrrl Tour across the Midwest. Currently in Los Angeles, Kristy books shows and helps host showcases for songwriters through the Songsalive! organization and is featured on Warrior Girl Records' compilation, "Females on Fire."

Strong combination of singing and songwriting
author: Steven HemingrayI quite like this entire CD as I honestly have every single one of the songs in my general playlist. It was an excellent idea to concentrate on a smaller number of powerful songs than to release a full CD stuffed with filler. "She's Been Waiting" is also a significant improvement across the board from previous efforts. One can't ask for more from the songs - a beautiful voice singing meaningful songs complete with a jazzy, improvisational feel. One of these days I'll have to make the drive to Ann Arbor to see her.

"She's Been Waiting" - Intelligent and Honest
author: John WoodruffI saw Kristy perform with her band for the first time over a year ago, and I was instantly struck by both her lyrical sincerity and her obvious musicianship. Kristy's writing is undesigning, but draws the listener in none the less. The songs have a unique blend of being instantly likeable and catchy, without feeling at all derivative. Before she and her band had finished their set, I was hooked. Since then, I've been anxiously awaiting another release from Kristy, and "She's Been Waiting," is more than I could have asked for. Her songwriting has matured, and with the help of producer and bassist, Mike Chiaburu, her sound has blossomed into something she can call her own. This release meanders through genre classifications while consistently offering a fresh lyrical perspective. Kristy explores a diversity of sound and style that could leave lesser artists sounding directionless, but one gets the opposite impression from "She's Been Waiting." This is an extremely well thought out and well produced release, and I strongly recommend it.
An astounding album from star-in-the-making Kristy Hanson!

While Hanson's guitar guides all six tracks, a piano, strings, drums, and back-up vocals weave effortlessly throughout. In her lyrics, Hanson tackles many aspects of a complicated relationship. The strongest track, "Half the Moon", features Hanson singing about the frustration ofunrequited love (in the first chorus, she sings "You'd think I'd be used to the hours alone", but as the songs grows more passionate and heartfelt, it turns into "I don't wanna get used to the hours alone"). "Alone on the Playground", lushly orchestrated with strings, a flute, and an oboe, is a haunting and sweeping ode to the importance of patience in a relationship; and the album's clsoing track, "Take It Back", is an apology with hope coursing through its up-tempo veins. The tracks on "She's Been Waiting" are complex but never muddy, individual but consistently pleasing. While Hanson tinkers with and combines pop, rock, folk, and jazz elements, one thing remains resoundingly crystal-clear: She is a captivating singer and a remarkable songwriter. And while this particular album may seem short, it represents the start of something wonderful-a strong and original voice that will surely lead to an impressive career. BUY THIS ALBUM, because Kristy Hanson is here to stay.
A Breathtaking Album--This is a "MUST HAVE!"
author: PedroRestlessly innovative, Kristy Hanson's new album ranges from deeply personal folk stylings to pop/rock and jazz--while at the same time exploring luminous, starkly confessional territory along with more traditional folk/rock terrain. Hanson is a truly unique artist, seamlessly combining near-flawless technique with an astoundingly refreshing take on folk/pop/rock. I've had this CD on almost constant rotation in my player and I don't think there's one bad track on the entire record--a true artistic achievement. The backing band is also fantastic, providing rock solid grooves and arrangements but careful not to overshadow the main attraction: Hanson's soulful voice and melodic guitar stylings. If there's one album you buy this year, make it this one. You won't be dissapointed. I can't wait until Kristy's tour brings her out East so I can catch her live. That way, I'll be able to say I saw her before she was a star.
