notes

TERRITORY- stakes its claim.

TERRITORY, "Is a hook heavy blend of modern and classic hard rock. The production is awesome!" Says REVELATION Z a webzine from Germany.

TERRITORY is an eight-song, emotional collection of aggressive and honest lyrics to sink your teeth into.

PLANETA ROCK RADIO in Argentina says TERRITORY has, "Ripping guitars, and contagious songs".

THE BOX 101, a 100,000-watt powerhouse rock station and ROCK AND A HARD PLACE MAGAZINE from the U.S. mid-west calls TERRITORY "A Dark, Heavy and Majestic sound."

KTD, the group that cranked out TERRITORY is a Boston hard rock guitar band, and if vintage Led Zeppelin, Stone Temple Pilots and an arena rock mix of classic Aerosmith and Van Halen guitar shredding is the music you love, then this CD is for you.

MEDDOZAROCK a magazine from Switzerland says TERRITORY reminds you of the "Guns and Roses, appetite for destruction era, you can hear (the great playing) on every song on this record".

STUBBLE MUSICZINE of Boston notes TERRITORY "infuses elements of the BEATLES, ALICE COOPER, JAMES GANG and LED ZEPPELIN with some good old fashioned blistering guitar to create an edgy pop/rock sound that's all their own".

Alternate tunings, chunky riffs, an Eastern flavor meets Deep Purple with an edgy late 70's vibe, TERRITORY is a true rock CD that is proud of its musical roots complete with monster riffs and guitar solos. If that kind of CD is in your collection, then TERRITORY will fit right in.

So who is KTD?

It all started many decibels and a few moons ago when we cut our teeth playing around Boston back in the day. We had airplay, a few regional hits, headlined clubs, got great reviews and did gigs with Metallica, Extreme, Twisted Sister, Molly Hatchet, Foghat and Lita Ford. We played everywhere they let us! By the early 90's and after many gigs and showcases for all the major labels we went on hiatus.

The millenium came, so of course the band played a reunion show. The response was so overwhelming that the nearly original roster decided reform the group. Yes, the band was back together.

Although the group had a successful track record, "We wanted to try some new musical ideas. We didn't want to rehash what we did in the 80's." notes Fiorentino. "We called ourselves Kick the Dog, a sort of wake-up call for us to get it going again."

"We jammed and wrote songs that reflect where we are now as people and as musicians, this dog still has a few new tricks" states Sera.

KTD recorded and released a CD that gave them the space. TERRITORY on Hydrant Records explores new ground for the band, a musical departure. Alternate tunings for alternate egos. It's a new crack in the old fault. KTD added Dave Q, to the band, mixing in his unique brand of piano, synthesizer and keyboard licks to get that full arena sound and to expand the boundaries.
Songs off the CD are getting airplay and both regional and international magazines and webzines have been raving about the "new" band.

NEW ENGLAND ENTERTAINMENT DIGEST writes, "TERRITORY is a welcome punch of reminiscence. Filled with hot riffs and cool downs in all the right places. This CD EXPLODES...

ADRENALIN 'ZINE of Europe reviews "I love their attitude. The guitars are above and beyond, fantastic! Mid-tempo, melodic and transcending."

"We marked our spot, this is the music we like". Says drummer and vocalist Mike Lamm. KTD is guitar driven rock and roll, with no apologies for the roots from which it came. Fans of vintage and modern hard rock love this band.

So here we are, and here it is. We're still making music, playing for anyone, anywhere they want to hear our songs. We had a blast in the past and we have the scrapbook, battle scars and the road kill to prove it! But more importantly, it rocks, we like playing together and we look forward to making music in the future!

TERRITORY is modern rock songwriting with a classic feel.

This is a very solid, very good CD. The type they don't play on the radio anymore. To Bad. It's all our loss.

  • "Slash, Schenker, UFO, Velvet Revolver..it's all here"!
    author: Rock-E-Zine- The Netherlands

As the melodic rock band Axminster, they played on the stage with Extreme, Twisted Sister, Molly Hatchet and Lita Ford in the long-haired eighties. Axminster didn’t survive the grunge revolution. Ktd is not only the reborn band, it’s also a new point of view, a new philosophy; more mature, more thoughtful, deeper… Fans compare their new effort with the classic rock, that reminds of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Dream Theater. It’s good old rock’n’roll! You may call it melodic rock, but I’d label it as a hard rock with the melodic inputs a la the eighties. It’s coming into the limelight again; so this album hits the time. The verified melodic lines, the laborious arrangement, the hard rock vocals and the guitar voyages a la Michael Schenker and Slash (yes, all in all “Territory” has something in common with “In Trance” of Scorpions, UFO’s “Obsession” and the new “Contraband” of Velvet Revolver) – it’s all makes this cd a titbit for the music fans. • “The cd rocks!!
    author: Jimmy Birmingham; Saugus, Massachusetts

“The cd rocks!! I like the fact that it’s not one big long song, like so many bands seem to put out later in life, when all the creative juices are gone. I like the fact that there are many different styles and it doesn’t sound like a leftover product from the 80's,but had a 90's/'04 influences too. Again, great cd, and great that you guys are still keeping it real.”

  • ‘Bloody great album!

‘Bloody great album! Fuses all that is good about rock both classic and new. Something for any rock fan. You should buy this album NOW!!!”

  • Territory is a very strong CD.

“Territory is a very strong CD. I keep coming back to comparisions to late Brother Cane stuff. It’s a bit tougher sounding with a modern rock feel”.

  • A Dark...Heavy...Majestic Sound!
author: Rock and A Hard Place

KTD play a style of Melodic Rock that's a bit hard to explain. In some respects their AOR, but with a darker, heavier more majestic sound. They use a lot of modern elements throughout the album without straying drastically from the late 70's and 80's song structure. Steve Sera's vocals separate the sound from all the Nickelback and Creed clones. Overall, I really love what they're doing, they're creating a new sound without straying from the old school Melodic Rock. We need bands like this to break the mold and by doing what they're doing, hopefully they're creating a new fan base for Melodic-based Hard Rock. Reviewed by Torch

  • They Play with guts; proud of their musical roots.
    author: Steen Peitersen

True rocks bands like Kick the Dog are very rare these days - they don't make things more difficult than they are and play with the guts and are proud of their musical roots - rock on! Territory kicks off with 3 mid tempo songs - but all with a very melodic approach underneath the more biker-like attitude. I'm especially fond of track two The Bed I Made and they continue with four more rockier tracks including Shine with a great guitar solo supported by a great rhythm section! The album finishes off with the more mellow Living in Sin with well balanced guitar figures and a sing along chorus.

  • "A Distintive Sound and Great Songs!"
    author: Soundcheck Magazine

Deep. We’ve got lots of thought put into this dark rock music. I’m absolutely loving the guitars and the lyrics. Drummer’s got a heavy groove, bass player’s laying back, and the other two members play guitars, keys, sitar, synthesizer, percussion, and more. I’m loving the first song name of "Room To Breathe" but the second one "The Bed I Made" has some fantastic guitar playing, more deep chording and powerful lyrics and some vocal harmonies on the chorus. This is a really good band with a distinctive sound and great songs. Is it radio pop? No, it won’t make that kind of dough for the labels. What it does have is integrity. Other titles: "Bleed," "Living In Sin," and "Shake The Cage." I’m a fan. Two thumbs up for the grooves, the licks, the surprises, and the lead vocalist(s?). - L.A. Deep

I Love this record!!!! This band plays hard rock with power. Incredible live band that rocks the audience. Territory is a CD that you listen to over and over. Solid songwriting, great lyrics and monster musicians.

  • Highly Recomended!
    author: www.HeavyHarmonies.com

Chunk riffs and 80's grooves not unlike XYZ and Dokken are prevalent here. "Shake The Cage" reminds me of late 80s KISS (especially the harder edged Gene tunes). "Bleed" has XYZ all over it and "Fly" is one of the standout tracks. "Here and Now" has some anthemic choruses and a Led Zep-ish riff. All in all this album represents an old school approach which I feel works well for these guys. Highly recommended!!

  • The overall effect is stimulation.
    author: Louder Boston Magazine

the strife and times. The album is old fashioned, no nonsense punk: stripped down, sloppy, direct, and from the heart not the ass. Funny interview clips in between acts add to the flavor and social message. You can tell when the music is inspired and when it’s not. The overall effect is stimulation. • Balls Out...Rock hard and heavy!
    author: David Atkinson

They play a hook heavy blend of classic rock and modern melodic hard rock. The first four cuts on their new record "Territory" contain the most pop oriented songs while the final four cuts break the balls out and rock hard and heavy. The production is awesome! Crystal clear! Layered vocals, killer production tricks, and they leave room to breathe, which allows the songs a 3 dimensional quality that breaks from the normal 4-piece rock band sound. The album treads some familiar waters but they do it with style and can easily claim their own sound. The vocals are great, talented singing all the way through. Great guitar colors and solos. Supreme production and a great rhythm section. Click on the site to read the complete review.

  • I love their attitude!
author: Adrenalin 'Zine By Darren Brandt

Well, I wasn't sure what to expect when I received this album. I usually have an idea of what a band will sound like by reading up on them and studying the disc artwork, liner notes, etc. I was surprised, as this does not fall into any category. I had to listen to it all the way through before I could gather my thoughts. After a 3 listens, here goes... I love their attitude. I can't seem to pinpoint them into any category. I hear 70's, 80's, 90's and all kinds of new flavors when I listen to this disc. What really jumps out at me is the engineering and production. The guitars are above and beyond, fantastic! Mid-tempo, melodic, transcending are good adjectives to use here. This album is not fast, loud, obnoxious, or repulsive. I welcome that. Don't get me wrong, I love to rock and roll, but not all the time. Originality is truly an art form and is appreciated in my book. This may not be for everybody, but I will let you decide that! Check this shit out!!

  • This CD visits rock songwriting at its best!
    author: New England Entertainment Digest

Territory, is a welcome punch of reminiscence, tempered with time. Flavors of Aerosmith, with Kiss-like framing, weave into the songs. Steve Sera's vocals are as strong and clear as ever, and the 8-track CD visits rock songwriting at its best - with a moderate start that eventually explodes into the kind of electric blending expected from a band of this caliber. Instrumentation is balanced, filled with hot riffs and cool downs in all the right places.

  • All fans of hard rock must check out this band
author: Metal Domination by Antonis Maglaras

Here we present the latest full length album from KTD, a hard rock band from United States. This album has eight good songs generally. I think this release splits in two pieces. I mean , the first three songs are a little bit slow and mid tempo, and from the fourth song"Here and Now", the band starts to rock with many groovy elements. So when you to listen this album you must listen to it carefully. The production is good and the sound is too. All the fans of hard rock in the early 70ies and 80ies must check this band.

Boston based KTD infuses elements of the BEATLES, ALICE COOPER, JAMES GANG and LED ZEPPELIN with some good old fashioned blistering guitar to create an edgy pop/rock sound that’s all their own. 8 catchy cuts featuring "THE BED I MADE. "FLY" and SHAKE THE CAGE".

  • Ripping Guitars and contagious chorus'
    author: Alexis L. Berman

PLANETA ROCK Buenos Aires Argentina Translated to English from S panish….. ´70’s and ´80’s rock, North Americans KTD, from Boston, have sent us Territory, it is a mixture of styles and similarities to the greatest groups of Hard Rock, Glam and Hair Metal from that era. Influenced by Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Motorhead and Stone Temple Pilots. Room to Breathe opens the CD, and is perhaps the most ambitious song, a Pink Floyd atmosphere and legendary symphonic keyboards typical of the English bands. The second song,The Bed I Made, follows in the footpaths of the album. A little Santana guitar, Latin influenced. Here and Now is a welcome hard rocker with some Zeppelin- Arab sounds reminding me of Kashmir or perhaps Rainbow. Shake the Cage perhaps is the most glam-type song on the disc with ripping guitars and a contagious chorus bringing back the best style of the ´80’s. Down the same path are the songs Shine and Bleed, although the melodies are darker, a little like Pearl Jam or STP. This CD is really a very good work.

  • Real rock and roll. This band can play!
    author: Mandy D

This CD IS one wicked elixir!. ... The Music is a combination of Metal and Progressive Rock, with cool elements ... The band sound like "Dream Theater", "Deep Purple", and "Led Zeppelin. Not many bands play like this anymore!

  • Nice production and excellent performances by all the musicians involved.
    author: Rock United-Urban "Wally" Wallstrom

You may actually recall the Boston line-up from the 80's with Steve Sera (vocals/guitars), Benny Fiorentino (guitars), Danny Callan (bass), and Mike Lamm (drums). They were never into hockey however (the hairdo never really mixed well with the helmet), and instead you could find them rocking out with their band Axminster. Axminster toured with the likes of Extreme, Lita Ford, Twisted Sister, and scored a couple of regional hits in the New England area. Speaking of New England, Hirsh Gardner (drums) produced most of their stuff back then and a compilation CD, was released a couple of years ago (see review in our archive). All in the past though as KTD is the new thing and "Territory" is their debut CD. Sera is perhaps the first thing you'll notice about KTD. His voice is still as "raspy" (in a good way) as in the past and it really has a charm of its own. The music has "matured" and you wont find as many 80s "party rock" or "hairmetal" anthems anymore. The first three tracks are all midtempo songs and the great opener "Room To Breathe", display a lot of Alice Cooper influences. You can add "The Bed I Made" and the ballad "Living In Sin", to the same pile by the way. "Fly" is darker with a groove similar to STP and vintage Led Zep. "Shake The Cage" is Skid Row during their 'Slave To The Grind' era (lots of impressive guitar work by Fiorentino), while "Bleed" reminded me of Tattoo Rodeo somehow. Bottomline: a little bit disappointing with only eight tracks and overall very midtempo oriented music (I miss some real uptempo tracks). Still, with a rather nice production and excellent performance by all musicians involved, KTD may be something for you to check out.

  • Hits the listener between the eyes!!
author: Lee J Aspin- Glory Daze Webzine

It’s been a while, but now the band are back, playing under their new moniker of KTD, which they say originally, stood for Kick The Dog, but in reality can mean whatever they want it to… Whatever the name, it seems they’re making decent music. ‘Room To Breathe’ has a melodic intro with a spaced out feel and slightly phased vocals. It’s only as the drums and the main riff kick in, it really hits me. I’m reminded very much of Dokken (circa "Dysfunctional") and, probably due to the spacey element, Jeff Pilson’s War And Peace side project. The synths in the closing section have a very old pomp quality, which at first sounds a little unsettling, but works in the overall mix. ‘The Bed I Made’ is a little smoother around the edges and will probably appeal to those of you looking for the more obviously melodic but for me lacks the spark of the opening cut, but then, that not to say it’s bad. I’ve certainly heard far worse. The high point definitely has to be the guitar breaks – Benny Fiorentino has a very fluid style. After an acoustic intro, ‘Fly’ comes across a little heavier and is one of the standout tracks for me. It has all the things I look for when it comes to melodic rock: solid vocals, a great riff with a big groove and a than worthy guitar solo. As with the first two tracks, this is definitely more in keeping with the 90’s styled melodic rock as opposed to the more party-fuelled 80’s stuff. There’s a slight eastern feel here too, courtesy of Benny’s subtle sitar parts. ‘Here And Now’ hits the listener between the eyes with its faster pace – it’s a swaggering piece, which seems very sure of itself, thanks to an anthemic chorus coupled with a very Zeppelin-y riff (which, if you ask me, is always welcome). I hope I’m not too far off the mark here, but when I first heard ‘Shake The Cage’, my first reaction was to think of the harder elements of the late 80’s Kiss material, the Gene Simmons songs in particular (that’s a compliment in my book chaps). Add a hair metal groove (a la XYZ) in there and it makes for a good end result. Another chunky riff, another anthemic chorus --- done and dusted, job done, no messin’. ‘Shine’ somehow falls a little short (bar the guitar solo, which again hits the mark). There’s technically nothing wrong with its main riff either, it’s just the chorus doesn’t quite come up to scratch. It could be a case of bad sequencing ‘Shake The Cage’ is a tough act to follow; if ‘Shine’ had been placed elsewhere on the disc, it might fare better. Another chunky riff opens up ‘Bleed’. Again, I’m reminded of XYZ, with an altogether dirtier sound than their first two records. As with much of this CD, I feel it’s the guitar work (the solo in particular) which is the real jewel here. Finishing off the album, ‘Living In Sin’ has much smoother edges, in keeping with the band’s more Dokken influenced sound. In contrast to the driving guitars of the previous number, the hook here comes with the chorus, which at first doesn’t sound like a complete ‘grabber’. It’s on subsequent listens, when the smaller details – like the backing vocals – help to pull the listener in. In short, this album represents an old school approach which I feel works well for these guys. Regular Glory Daze visitors should find plenty to enjoy here. Lee J Aspin

  • Melodic, strong guitars... The whole vibe is cool!
author: Metal Rock News- Nicky Baldrian

This band were once known as AXMINSTER from Boston, who toured with the likes of Extreme, Metallica, Lita Ford and Twisted Sister etc. The first song ROOM TO BREATHE is melodic rock with a slight progressive feel, the melodies are very atmospheric and remind me of Dare and the vocals from Steve Sera sound grity and impressive, maybe even some Sammy Hagar, Harem Scarem (circa Voice Of Reason) and Von Groove influences can be heard during the song, it is very catchy and performed and produced really well, actually the song also has a similar vibe to Lita Ford's Back To The Cave, good opening track with lots of progy sounding keyboards from Benny Fiorentino. THE BED I MADE has a 70's/80's feel, like Alice Cooper (Poison) crossed with Y&T and Helix. The guitars are very strong and melodic and the whole vibe is very cool. FLY is a little like Bon Jovi crossed with Ozzy and HERE AND NOW is a really catchy guitar edge number with a little funk reminding me of Extreme and Motley Crue's Hooligan's Holiday. SHAKE THE CAGE is a frenzied hard rocker like Tuff's All New Generation crossed with Warrior Soul. Next is SHINE which goes for an Aerosmith crossed with Warrior Soul and Ken Tamplin and is a really good song and one of the best on the album, very late 70's hard rock vibe with swanky cool George Lynch like guitar shredding. Next up is BLEED and this one is catchy sleazy party rock, like Babylon A.D. and Spread Eagle. Last song is another diamond and it is called LIVING IN SIN. It is very melodic and catchy, a bit like Kane Roberts and ends the album on a fine note. Overall this is a good release and KTD should not have any problems getting signed with a label such as Perris Records or Metal Mayhem. Check them out at www.ktdrocks.com

  • Good quality hard rock!
    author: Strutter'zine

KTD is a hot new band from the Boston area and instead of bringing us the horrible Nu-Metal sound, this band grabs back to classic 70s/80s when ‘real’ Hardrock was the style all over the USA. Now we are in the year 2003 and there is a new band called KTD, and their debut CD ‘Territory’ has just been released. The first 3 songs on the CD are a bit slow in tempo, with "Room to Breathe" on a positive note……From track 4 on this CD starts rocking with the ALICE COOPER orientated "Here and Now". A decent record with good quality groovy Hardrock in it’s original approach. Better check it out for yourself…… (Points: 7.5 out of 10) Gabor Kleinbloesem Editor of Strutter'zine

  • Good arrangement and the energy of the track is solid.
    author: Taxi

TAXI Custom Critique **** The Bed I Made…is well laid out, with a hook that’s well set up and distinctive compared to the verse. Good arrangement and the energy of the track is solid as well. I think my favorite part about this song is the story and position the singer takes in terms of telling this story. Good song structure and melodic build.
