notes

Lee Quick: just your typical female singer-songwriter-guitarist-ex-Army bassoonist dishing out original alt. country/folk/roots/Americana with a New Orleans attitude.

Lee Quick's first album, "Do You Think?", takes you on a ride through the wry side of folk, gyspy rock, alt. country, and whatever else she was in the mood for. This lyrical, sharp-witted collection touches on a variety of styles different enough to keep you thinking quick.

The CD was recorded at a shot-gun house in New Orleans' infamous Ninth Ward (before it went underwater in 2005). This eclectic album features ten Lee originals plus two co-written songs, including the fan favorite "Folk U.", a tongue-in-cheek look at musical (and sexual) education.

"Bored To Hell," with its quirky, catchy hook, shows Lee's dark and unique sense of humor, and "Do You Think?" questions your thinking, or questions whether you are thinking or not.

One standout song, "If I Apologize," originally penned in 1940 by Lee's late grandmother, Ann Whitman Dudoit, generates emotional accolades from listeners; it's been described as "something Patsy Cline should have sung."

Down-to-earth, straight-shooting, and occasionally funny as hell, "Do You Think?" has both a brain and a heart.

  • Intelligent, sassy, heartfelt

An intelligent blend of folk, blues, bluegrass and country with occasional flashes of lyrical insight (no wonder she’s not popular in her native New Orleans). I think the word for it is sassy; these lyrics sum it all up: ‘yeah, you tore out my heart, showed it to me, threw it on the floor, stepped on it, turned around – showed your best side – and walked out the door’. Her voice caresses words at times and at others pushes them away; the backing is generic which doesn’t really matter as it’s all in the delivery and the lyrics. The sincere ‘If I Apologize’ and ‘Tell Me’ show that she can do heartfelt too. 6 out of 10

Lee is an awesome writer. This CD shows her wit and also her emotional side. Along melodic vocals and sharp guitar, her lyrics take you by surprise and for a drive. This CD kept me laughing and singing for hours!
