"Walk Away Renee"

Take a trip back with the Jangle Pop release you'll want as a must have! This CD features Les' renowned Rickenbacker 12-String Guitar and Phil Spector productions stylings and showcases his smash iTunes download hit single of "Have I The Right." along with some special surprises! Featured guest performers on this release include Richie Furay ( Buffalo Springfield, Poco) guest duetting with Les on Richie's all new composition "Only To You." The original members of The Left Banke (Mike Brown on Piano, Tom Finn on Bass and Background Vocals, Steve Martin on Guitar and Background Vocals and George Cameron on Drums and Background Vocals) appear with Les on the formerly unreleased version of his 1972 composition "I Could Make It Last Forever"- a crucial, heretofore, never heard missing piece of Left Banke history. This recording even includes Mike's father Harry Lookofsky on Violins so the entire crew from "Walk Away Renee" fame is on board for this extremely commercial piece of pop history.

Mick Ronson and Hilly Michaels stepped in the studio way back in 1981 with Les and the resuls are found on "Spare Change."

And don't forget to check out this CD's surprise smash: "I'm Gonna Love You",
It's a slice of breezy pop rock cast in a swing 5/4 meter. Henry Gross (famous for the hit song "Shannon") says it's his favorite Les Fradkin tune.

Les also offers a selection of great Jangle covers from songs that influenced him as a 12-string guitarist: "The Byrds' "Goin' Back" and "So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star" as well as songs from The Searchers ("When You Walk In The Room"), The Honeycombs ("Have I The Right"), The Hollies ("I Can't Let Go"), The Left Banke ("Walk Away Renee"), Bob Dylan and Procol Harum.

This release is pressed on special LIMITED edition RED Colored CD's which reflect crimson burgundy in bright light.

A BIT OF BIO:

Les Fradkin is one of the guitar legends of the 1970's. As well as being a veteran member of The Original Cast of Beatlemania, he has found success as a recording artist, composer and producer with MGM Sunflower, ESP-Disk', Bell, Arista, RCA, and Laurie Records. Les has written the well known French hit "La Chansons Des Souvenirs" ("Song Of A Thousand Voices") for the famous Mireille Mathieu. He has played 12 and 6-string Guitar, Bass, Mellotron, and Piano on dozens of Top 40 hit records throughout the early 1970's , scoring many US and UK chart placings throughout his career.

His 12-string guitar, vocals and production with legendary underground psychedelic folk- rock group,The Godz, resulted in several albums for ESP Disk among which "Pass On This Side" (featuring Les' song "God Bless California"), continues to influence and mentor generations of new musicians to this day.

In 1976, Les was selected over thousands of other auditioning guitarists to appear in the original cast of the smash hit Broadway musical "Beatlemania" playing lead guitar and the part of "George Harrison" in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Running for two and a half years from May 1977 thru October 1979, every show (including over 1200 in New York alone) was sold out and the musicians quickly became celebrities with magazine cover stories ("Newsweek","Time", "People", "Rolling Stone") and many major television show appearances. With his guitar-playing in the international spotlight from the show, Fradkin developed a cult following that has avidly followed his career and made him a celebrity among guitar fans.

He has enjoyed chart success on the net as well with his songs reaching mp3.com's 1 position 16 times! New Gandy Dancer Rock Magazine named Les' CD "A Day At The Beach" it's 2004 Album Of The Year. In addition, Les has performed with The Ventures as 2nd Lead Guitarist. Nokie Edwards of The Ventures has performed with Les on several occasions and is a featured guest on his "While My Guitar Only Plays" CD. In fact, Les has been acknowledged as a guitar virtuoso for over 30 years and he has been featured in issues of 20th Century Guitar Magazine, Pipeline and New Gandy Dancer Magazines.

Today, Les has released 15 solo CD's on his RRO Entertainment Indie label and has had over 300,000 downloads bringing him several substantial hits on Apple iTunes and other download sites across the Internet.

Byrds fans won't be disappointed. Next to covers of well known songs, Les offers some of his own compositions. Fill your ears with that magical Rickenbacker 12 string sound!

  • Ahhh the memories!

Wonderful compilation of oldies, with great jangly guitar and personal spin/interpretation. Loved the song selection, they meld great together; loved the trip down memory lane! Thanks Les!

  • Needs to be played over & over again !

You've just got to give it to him. When Les Fradkin comes up with a new album, it is impossible to pull it out of that cd player. It just needs to be played over & over again ! "Goin' Back" harks back to the past and does so on two different levels. Half of the songs are 60's classics, favorites and influences of Les' past. Tracks recorded by The Byrds, Hollies, Searchers and others, all classics in their own right. But never do I get the urge the compare these versions to the originals, as Les gives them a new life. And although he stays close to the original in sound and arrangement, he still manages to make them his own. On the other hand there's six tracks that trawl through Les' past, introducing a few special guests along the way ! There's "Spare change", a track dating back to 1981, featuring none other than Mick Ronson ! "Only to you", fairly recent from 2002, has Richie Furay as a special duet guest artist ! Then there's "I could make it last forever", a song going back to the early 70's recorded at a Left Banke reunion. So this song features the entire Left Banke, no less ! Michael Brown, Tom Finn, Steve Martin, George Cameron and even Michael's father Harry Lookofsky on violins and string arrangements. How's that for a treat ?! Also of particular interest is the Bob Dylan song "I don't want to do it", never done by the Maestro himself, but only covered by George Harrison for the Porky soundtrack. "Fellow Travelers", Les' contribution to a Procol Harum tribute album, closes the album and only leaves you wanting for more. But not to worry ! Another spin will drag you deeper into this cd with new bits and pieces to be discovered among the layers of guitar and keyboards and what-have-you. Do yourself a favor and buy this cd ! You won't regret it ! It comes with the RoA seal of approval!

  • Awesome!

I love the way you molded the tune "Walk Away Renee" into your unigue style. I can't believe the sheer re-working of the song to give it your own special vibe! "I Could Make It Last Forever" is awesome and I am impressed with this album. Overall a classic song and any Left Banke fan would be proud of it.
