notes
Over the past several years, Jazz has been going through a transformation and re-birth. Music fans are becoming interested in this transformation because of the musical innovations of the new artists in the genre. M2O is not only capturing a lot of attention; it is leading the change.
Presenting what they define as "Urban Smooth Jazz," M2O combines the musical and songwriting inspirations of a vast array of styles. With influences ranging from 'James Brown' to 'The Ohio Players' to 'Ramsey Lewis' to 'Grover Washington' to 'Phyllis Hyman,' M2O has created its own unequaled blend of Jazz which can almost best be described as walking a fine line between R&B and Smooth Jazz.
Jazz has evolved over the years from the dance sounds of the 1920's, 30's and 40's to the heavy improvisational sound of the 50's and 60's. M2O is determined to put "Pop" into Jazz by creating a music that people not only can groove to, but will also move them emotionally. M2O is the driving force behind this musical experience.
In its debut release, Epiphany, M2O enlightens us with their musical insight. For example, the title cut -written by Aaron Reid, a founding member who recently passed away- has a driving, funky groove that answers the question
of what to do when you lose a loved one. Do you stand still, in negativity or do you move forward with positive energy and tenacity? Even with the death of one of
their founding members (Aaron Reid), m2o "pressed their way" past this tragedy to complete this album. It is a challenge to their fans to meet the demands of life head-on and drive forward.
The lyrical songs that are featured on this album are about love, relationships and the many nuances of life. For example, the song, Sunshine and Rain is about loving someone in the good times and bad. However, the song, Extraordinary Love boldly states, I will no longer settle for a secondary commitment. The love that I desire is an extraordinary love. The instrumental selections are insightful just as well. They provide a soundtrack to life. They underscore a drive and determination to live life to its fullest.
M2O's musical reflections are simple. Love conquers all. Relationships between people are one the most valued treasures we have. As long as we have each other, we can meet any challenge in life.

An album filled with the human experience.
author: Cheryl Hughey"Epiphany" by M2O is an album filled with the human experience. Members take you on a ride through love and laughter. Key players include: Heidi McLaughlin, Thomas Blalock, Charles Nix, Jody Mayfield and Michael Tisdale. The album includes several luxurious pieces with Lionel Hampton on sax. The colorful contours of this CD are many. For instance, "Ghetteau" is sleekly urban, while "Black Pepper" takes you on a spicy trip. "Groove Park" brings you to a cool and vibrant place. The deeply resonating vocals of McLaughlin on "Sunshine and Rain" are sure to leave you satisfied. Sit back and enjoy the journey. This mighty collection is a definite must for your purchase list.

Your music is breath of fresh air.
author: Vernon LaneI'm not a musician..but I heard some of the tracks on the CD Baby website and said to myself "The cd is a must buy"! And, I'm not disappointed at all..love the cd. It's amazing how there are a lot of unknown artists or groups who put out fantastic music, but you will never hear the guys on radio because of red tape..I do not know much about the radio business, however after traveling across country and listening to various jazz stations, I'm disappointed with the programing (same tracks played at least four time within three to five hours. Anyway, your music is breath of fresh air. As a matter of fact, I used your CD as demo for Bose Speakers and the consumers and my friends fell in love with it..and tried to take my copy! I gave them your website and CD Baby's website. Your music is great and hopefully I can get the Armed Forces Radio Station to give you some air time in Europe and the Middle East.
Your CD IS the truth!
author: Al Huntyour CD IS the truth! It is an excellent blend of progressive instrumentals and vocals. I am speechless as to the overall quality of that CD. Talk about greatness! It rivals some of my most serious jazz CDs and I have over 1000.
One of the hottest bands out of the ATL.
author: Trent SlatonA fresh take on jazz, improv and contemporary music. I got a chance to see them live. Sounded better than the CD, and the CD is great!
Such a spirit lifter, I knew I had to have it!
author: Rhonda ByrdMy husband really enjoys music a great deal and invests accordingly. I, on the other hand, have always enjoyed music that someone else purchases. :0) However, when I listened to the music, the songs struck me in the heart, and I pictured myself relaxing with that CD playing, and decided that I would make the purchase immediately. I am not an impulse buyer, but it was such a spirit lifter, I knew I had to have it!
Good Driving Music!
author: Cortez JonesI bought this CD at one of M2O's concerts. I popped it in my car cd player on the way to Savannah, Ga. It eased my driving time. The Music was so great, it made my trip a journey instead of a long ride. A must buy!!
