  • Chicagoans who still rock
    author: Pat Mills

Chicago has had better and more memorable bands, but M & R Rush symbolizes the spirit of the rock 'n rollers who've had a loyal fan base, but never achieved big success. Yes, they sound like Styx, and their lyrics aren't special, but they are devoted and engaging craftsmen. This is primarily a compilation of albums and singles they released in the 1980s, but it's an enjoyable trip down a lesser-known part of the Chicago music scene. Chicago is a rock 'n roll city, thanks, in part, to the grooves on this CD, courtesy of a band of their native sons.

  • Pure Amazing Rock
    author: Leann Blaschke

The music rocks, the band rocks, what else can you say!!! I love the fact that so many of the band members share lead vocal duties. It makes each song different from the one before. Upbeat, lively music on the CD, and an awesome band to see perform live!! I LOVE IT!!

  • Still kicking butt!
    author: MFR

I used to see M&R Rush playing the Midwest club circuit in the early eighties, and the first six songs on the CD give a feel for just how good these guys are in a live setting. Song writing & playing so memorable that I could sing along when I played the disc, even after 24 years. But the last six songs prove that this band isn't just a blast from the past. Like a fine wine, M&R Rush just keeps getting better as time goes by.

  • Melodic songs, harmonizing vocals, catchy pop hooks and heavy keyboards.
author: Tom Lounges - Midwest Beat Magazine

This CD, brings the one time local club kings kicking and screaming into the new millennium. This new Best of... collection is named for the band’s huge 1980 hit single -- Rock & Roll Chicago -- which feels every bit as good to the ears as it did many years ago. Likewise for their other hits -- #1, You’re The Only Woman and Reach For The Stars -- which were all spun on my old radio alma mater, Night Rock. This has a late ‘70s/early ‘80s arena rock feel, but that’s what makes them great. Listening to this CD is like getting a surprise visit from an old college buddy . Young folks unfamiliar with M&R Rush, the band has a sound akin to Styx –– melodic songs, harmonizing vocals, catchy pop hooks, heavy keyboards and twin guitars.

  • This CD Will Take You Back To A Happier Time & Place!
    author: Dave Stasnik aka/Southside Dave

One of the best that almost was... If you grew up around Chicago listening to Journey, REO, Styx, Off Broadway, Shooting Star, or The Kind then chances are somewhere in your record pile was M&R Rush. Well written lyrics with great harmonies and musicianship that truly does stand the test of time. A strong contender for my top 50 desert island list and a Chicago Masterpiece! If the boys have some more musical gems, I hope they don't wait another 20 years.

  • Classic Midwestern rock at its best
    author: Joe Cataldo

This is a long awaited Cd from midwest rock legends M&R Rush. These are remixed versions of there classic hard to find EP's. The music Sounds as fresh as ever. This is a must have for any fans of midwest rock and roll. The material really stands up to the test of time. Worth the price for the legendary anthem "rock and Roll Chicago" alone. If your going to buy any cd's on CDBABY-pull the trigger on this one!

  • High Class Pomprocksongs
    author: Gabor Kleinbloesem

This American band plays typical late 70s/early 80s Pomprock with spacey keyboards, 3 guitarists (!), a smooth drum/bass rhythm section and of course classy melodic lead and harmony vocals, ending up sounding like bands such as STYX, REO SPEEDWAGON, FOREIGNER, ROADMASTER, STARCASTLE, LE ROUX, ANGEL, PRISM etc. etc. Especially the first 6 songs of this disc are HIGH CLASS Pomprocksongs, with as absolute highlights “#1” (big chorus with the harmonies), “You’re the only woman”, “Stay with me” and “First time I saw her” (a la SHOOTING STAR). If you’re interested in classy North American Pomprock from the late 1970s, then the first 6 songs on this CD are a total must for you.

  • No Fillers, Only Killers. Classic.
    author: Bruce James

Once every so often a band comes along, plucked from obscurity, thrown on to my record deck hence blowing me away like an insignificent leaf on a majestic melodic wind. A wonderful pomp ala Roadmaster, mid period Le Roux and Thrills. And as they say, no fillers, only killers! Classic! These guys are still on the go and playing gigs. Check em out!

I remember seeing M&R Rush at St. Francis de Sales High School. They rocked then and still rock now.

  • Doesn't get better than this! OUTSTANDING!!
    author: Nancy Hinson

If you were a fan in the 70's, the past just comes flooding back, if your a new fan then hang on cuz your in for the ride of your life. This CD and M&R Rush are better than ever!! The lyrics and music is as good as or better than ANYONE on the radio, 103.9, Loop, or any Chgo radio station would be fools not to play a few cuts from this CD. So nice to have these guys back on stage and their CD in our players!

  • Better than ever!!!
    author: Kim Bobbitt

I can remember seeing M & R 22 years ago at St Laurence High School. One show was all it took and I was hooked!!! Now, 22 years later, I am hooked again, more than ever.. When I popped in their CD, the songs came right back to me, just as if I heard them yesterday, and I was taken back to some of the happiest days of my life. The band sounds better than ever, and they put on a ROCKIN' show.. I hope another CD is in the works, I just can't get enough. Keep rockin' guys!!! Your #1 fan....

  • The songs were great then and even better 20 years later!!
    author: Kate Haussmann

The old songs as well as the new stuff are true, midwest rock and roll-you can't get better. Reach for the Stars showcases the talents of M & R Rush.

  • This release is long overdue. Enjoy.
    author: Bill Puhr

In the late 70's and into the 80's there were many great bands making the rounds of the local Chicago and midwest club scenes. With so much great music around it was a great time for live music any night of the week in Chicago. At the top of that list of legendary Chicago bands would have to be M & R Rush. With a live show second to none they had a huge following. This CD is a must have for any music collection. There is quality musicianship and excellent vocals throughout. The songs range from catchy rockers that hit hard, to ballads with irresistible hooks that keep you coming back for more. The release of this music has been long overdue, and it's now out there for all to enjoy. Turn it up.

  • How could a major label miss this band from Chicago.?
    author: Bob Gerome

I have listened to a lot of music at CDBABY. Seen this in new arrivals. How could a major label not have picked up this band. Well structured music. Great sounding harmonies. Lyrics and music would also make for a great movie soundtrack...just look at the titles of songs, and think how they would fit into movies you watch. There is definitely some talent behind this music. Great to hear a CD with such a variety of well written and blended sounds. This late 70's and early 80's music is fresh enough for this 2003 calendar year in my book. Check this one out for sure.

  • When you think of M & R Rush musically three things come to mind ...
    author: Mike Pakan

When you think of M & R Rush musically three things come to mind, especially when you see them live; (1) Great singing and harmonizing vocals. All five vocalist, Martin, McFarland, Hirtz, Moszur and Luif share lead vocals duties. (2) The dual guitar leads of John McFarland and Paul Martin. (3) And, the drumming of Marty Mardirosian, arguably one of the greatest drummers from Chicago. M & R Rush’s Rock & Roll Chicago is a greatest hits record from a Chicago land and Midwest band from the late 70’s early 80’s. This band has history dating back to the early 70’s. This has been written about and documented quite often. So not to repeat what was already written, go to the WEB site. The record opens with the title song, Rock & Roll Chicago. Featured vocalist is Paul Martin, probably the most distinctive voice of the 5 vocalist. The song also features Roger Hirtz on bass that is a combination of Chris Squire’s picked Rickenbacker sound and a Bootsy Colins’ funk grove (minus the heavy accent on the ONE down beat). This song was featured on the record Chicago Rocks, Volume One, produced by the Loop, WLUP- FM98 radio. This was the number one requested song on WLUP in 1980, and reached the number 35 spot on the local singles chart. Rock and Roll Chicago CD also features songs from EP, ‘Reach for the Stars’, the 45 record, ‘Eminar’ and an LP cassette, ‘Set the Streets on Fire’. The song Reach for the Stars also featuring Martin on lead vocals, and is the typical M & R Rush sound of the time. The occasional synthesizer sound and the melodic saxophone leads in the last two songs are the only give away to the time when these songs were first popular. The writing generally holds up well over time. The keyboard player Carl Moszur wrote most of the material. If I had to rate this CD, I’d give 4 stars. It has a good beat and you can dance to it. Fun stuff - highly recommended.
