Artist history - Kathryn Mannyng

Born in County Ramsey, St. Paul Minnesota, Kathryn Mannyng has been performing since she was five years old and has received international airplay. When she was a wee lass in her teenage years, she idolized Harpo Marx, and sought to imitate him.

Needing an accompanist for her budding singing career, she decided to accompany herself. That was at least twenty years ago. Being a classicaly trained soprano and self-taught harper, Katy melds the two worlds in her music with great success. She can go from playing a gutsy dance tune to singing and playing a classical rendition of Danny Boy in a heartbeat. She has played on Broadway in NYC at Symphony Space repeatedly and has been broadcast live over WNYC public radio.

Being a certified Usui Reiki Practitioner, Master and Teacher of both Usui Reiki and Music, as well as a professional musician, Kate's expanded plans include continuing her opera career and contributing to the emerging field of sound healing with classical and folk music. A complimentary modality, sound healing has a broader application than just the psychological approaches of music therapy. Studies are being done on the effects of music, and harp music in particular, on the human body in health and sickness. Some of the documented effects have been, relaxation, temporary relief from pain and stress. The use of the harp in this manner is consistent with the ancient uses of the Celtic harp and the different types of harp music which were laughing, crying, sleeping, and balladry.

Kate is available for Corporate Events, Weddings, Sound Healing Workshops, Lectures, and Usui Reiki training and treatment. Call 651-222-2781 for more information on Usui Reiki, lectures and events.

Kate's next gig is not with the harp, but performing Tai Chi Chuan at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. The following is what is posted on the private list...

Kate aka Who Knew Su Nu Usagi, Tai Chi Amnesiac (Some people say I am Crazy, Who Knew?) Activities for this year: Forgetting songs, Forgetting and teaching Tai Chi. Wandering aroung connecting with people and friends old and new. Sorry, no crushes on people this time around. I will be wearing a Chinese Hat and demonstrating Tai Chi. No harping anymore.

I am returning to the MN Renaissance Festival after a 17 year absence. I started in 1980 as a hawker, moved to a madrigal group, got the first performer harp at the MN Renaissance Festival from Dick Anderson, Woodsong Instruments. (The second harp he ever made.) I wandered around playing that and had crushes on many people for a while. I then worked in the Wool Gathering Shop for my Cousin Mary Ellen Manning.

1989, Got married and quit the fair in 1990. 2005, got divorced, moved back. Resume fair activities and fun, 2007.

Moved to Boston, did sub work at the King Richards Faire for Gregor Harvey, and solo work at the Salem Renaissance Faire. Busked in Harvard Square, and Downtown Boston. A full resume will be available when I get around to it on the CD baby site. Became Usui Reiki Master. Studied Tai Chi at Twin Cities Tai Chi. Auditioned on a lark. Got in. Here I am, back again.

Too much work. Time for play.

This wonderful CD is extremely soothing and calming. It envelopes you with comfort. As background music it is not distracting or jarring. Yet it has enough diversity to provide enough interest to be much more than background music. It has the ability to take you away. The beauty of the CD is enhanced by the intricate Celtic design on the actual CD and the architectural watercolor on the cover. We really enjoyed the entire experience of this CD.
