notes
"They say kids don’t listen to the radio anymore, but teenager Margot MacDonald has somehow absorbed all the lessons of Top 40 female vocalists for the past 30 years. Her growls and yowls and wails embody the heritage of everyone from Stevie Nicks to Whitney Houston to Sheryl Crow. Amazingly this is her second album, issued when she was 15, and backing her voice with a lot of straightforward hard rock guitar ..." On Tap Magazine 7-2007
Margot wrote her first song at the age of 7. She was hooked. She started taking piano lessons but singing was her true passion. In 4th grade she started performing with the World Children’s Choir. By the time she was 10 she was singing professionally with the Washington National Opera, the Wolf Trap Opera Company, and other musical theatre productions. However it was the events of 9/11 that prompted Margot’s recording career. The tragedy led the then 5th grader to write the song Imagine There’s a World. When the president invited students to find ways to donate to America’s Fund for Afghan Children, Margot recorded her song. She found herself on the world stage and learned the power of music.
Margot's early songs landed in the lap of John Jennings, the producer-guitarist best known for his Grammy Award winning work with Mary Chapin Carpenter. At the age of 12 she released her 2004 debut album, Rising. She dedicated it to a school friend battling cancer and donated a portion of the proceeds to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation. Songs from Rising went on to garner honors from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest as well as two Wammie (Washington Area Music Association) nominations for Best Vocalist and Song of the Year.
Entering high school Margot was accepted into the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC. Although the repertoire there is classical, Margot’s interests turned to rock music. She started playing guitar and brought her new songs to Wammie winning producer Marco Delmar. Margot’s first song with Marco, Serendipity, earned her the Young Artist Award of the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Another song, Quiet Hero, garnered her first award in the rock genre. Margot has just released her 2007 sophomore album, Torn.
Margot's career thus far has put her on stage with notable artists such as David Foster, Josh Groban, Nita Whitaker, Lionel Richie, Dennis DeYoung, Cher, The Corrs, Chuck Berry, Marc Anthony, Brian McKnight, Jessica Simspon, Chic, Judy Collins, and Placido Domingo. She tours as both solo artist and with a full band.
Margot has been named national spokesperson for Ground Control’s drunk driving awareness campaign. In addition she is contributing a portion of the proceeds from her new album, Torn, to Ground Control. Margot remains socially active. She supports the non-profit Peace Drum with her music and is involved with DC Music for Relief.
Only 16, Margot continues to evolve as an artist and is already at work on new projects. She's hit Blue Jay Studio with producer Marty Walsh in Boston. This fall Margot will be recording an Xmas CD with multi-Grammy Award winner Jon Carroll. And then she's back in the studio with Marco Delmar to rock out some more!

Cool-ness
author: Kenneth M BurkeMy introduction to Margot MacDonald was through My Space. Honestly, it took me a little while to tune my ear to her album Torn. Coming to her music, a listener needs to take the time to listen without any pre-conceived notions as her youthful demeanor blossoms with an entrancing adult voice, accompanied by solid musical talent and engaging lyrics. The first five songs of the album into the sixth build progressively, showcasing her musical potential. The first three songs work harmoniously together into the fourth, “Liberty.” The fifth song might slink past the listener into the sixth. The seventh takes on a somewhat dissimilar personality as the last songs have the strength and momentum of the first with a slightly different tone in identity to her audience. The album is nevertheless overall cohesive and the CD plays nicely on random. Young in heart and mind but almost with a tone of adult reflexivity, Margot proves to be mature in her music. She also has a lot of time and promise to progress. The album is musically geared to an audience of a cultured genre and it would be interesting to see Margot explore her world a little more. Certainly, she has much of an audience to discover her magnetism into the future of her career. This listener will be looking forward to see how she and her talents are to grow sustainably with the development of her music. Shrugs, like I'm a music critic or something, Kenneth

author: Renaud (RENSMUSIC)This CD is great, I don't have other words to express what I think about it. Margot has an incredible voice and her music is wonderful. La voix de Margot est puissante, mais également envoutante, et très prenante. Superbe ! Et bien sûr, sa musique est très belle, très rock, et très subtile à la fois. Cet album est une réussite !
