BLUES WITH GRIT & SPARKLE...
"Cinderella Sings the Blues" is the debut EP from Australian blues songstress, Lana Martino-Smith. Drawing inspiration from performers such as Bob Dylan, Rufus Wainwright and Billie Holiday, Lana recasts the blues for the "Sex and the City" set by reminding us that for every man who's done us wrong, there’s another waiting with a glass slipper. This seven-track collection is punctuated by the moaning guitar work of blues guru Dave McGuire and driven by an hypnotic rhythm section comprised of some of Australia’s best jazz/blues specialists. Add to the mix Lana’s sometimes sweet, sometimes guttural vocal performance and the result is blues with both grit and sparkle. A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Australia), Lana has received additional vocal training in New York & Los Angeles courtesy of a Churchill Fellowship. In 2007 she will star in the role of "Mimi" in the Gold Coast (Australia) production of the hit musical "Rent".

REVIEW QUOTES
"This Aussie songstress' debut blends jazz and soul as tastefully as a certain U.S. breakout star: Norah Jones. Or rather, 'Cinderella Sings the Blues' is the LP purists hope Jones will make, lighter on pop and heavy with dark, original blues." (CNET Music, 2007)
"Brimming with the kind of stuff blues legends are made of, this debut EP from the über-talented Brisbane songstress is nothing short of a masterwork from someone who clearly was born to the mic." (Time Off Magazine, 2007)
"Lana Martino-Smith certainly has gone to the ball. She gives us classy late night blues and sophisticated torch songs - a bit like Koko Taylor meets Peggy Lee" (Blues Bunny, 2007)

Liquid Sex!
author: MissyMy husband sent me this link, saying, "I would love to have this CD. A woman singing the blues in that voice is like liquid sex." So I signed on the next week and sent it to his work address. It was there before he was. He absolutely loves it. Every song on the CD fits his description.
Contemporary Jazz & Blues Fans Take Note!
author: Muzza (London, UK)It's abundantly clear from the music on this album that Lana Martino-Smith is a highly professional & accomplished musician. Her vocal performance throughout is faultless. Add to this her engaging songwriting & the organic production techniques utlized & "Cinderella Sings the Blues" becomes a very easy album to listen to. The title track is a definite favourite for its colour & mood but "Crippled Heart Blues" and "Cry Baby" are equally catchy & impressive. Contemporary jazz/blues fans will definitely enjoy this debut effort from a little-known independent Australian singer/songwriter. 5/5.
