:Songs in the key of wood" is an original compilation of vocal and instrumental songs written and recorded by this Chicago-area musician and luthier. Very little processing and controlled mastering leaves the listener reaching for the repeat button.
This musician represents himself in a dynamic solo environment quite differently than most acoustic guitar players. John has been playing guitar for 37 years, mostly as a solo singer/songwriter/guitarist. He has also spent the last 25 years as a guitar builder, and his recordings showcase his unique designs and sounds. The current mainstay of his arsenal is a 14 string harp guitar, morphed out of a 1960 Harmony guitar as a prototype.
The success of this prototype has led to the design and construction of an acoustic double neck, to be used in John's next adventure into the studio.
"Songs in the key of wood" is John's 2nd effort-his first recording "It's About Time" has sold out and gone Tin.
In the industry standard, all 1,000 copies sold privately in one year.
By day McHugh is a Locksmith at Keyth Security Systems of Highland Park, Illinois. And as you may have guessed, behind every great musician is a great woman, John's wife of 17 years, Marsha. Both of John's sons have McHugh guitars which he has custom built for them.
