Melina Almodovar is on the verge of redefining the scope of Latin American singers by possessing one of the most unique voices in Salsa and Soul music today. The Puerto Rican born singer/songwriter, who now calls Memphis, Tennessee home, is destined for international fame with the release of "Rumba's Salsa Soul Delight". The album shakes up the trend of current Latin music with a fresh fusion of Southern Soul of Memphis and real Salsa, a catchy mix never heard before. Her tunes, like the high energy "Sweetness", (in both English and Spanish), are melodic, musically intriguing, and gritty. The album, recorded in Puerto Rico, sparkles with the sensual number "Extasis", the romantic "Cuatro", the inspirational "Beautiful Thing" and the haunting "Eres Así". Overall, the album is a collection of potential hits with crossover appeal. It explores the broad spectrum of Latin and Soul music, and at the same time stages Melina's authenticity quite superbly.
Melina lived in San Juan until the age of 12. Her late father, Jose Luis Almodovar, a singer from that island, greatly influenced her musical talent. Melina's fondness for music and her appealing stage personality were apparent as a child, when she began singing in her parents' home and catching the attention of family and friends. It was in San Juan where she discovered a love for Salsa, Merengue, and Chachacha- rhythms that would always remain a part of her and her music. Melina, along with her mother, later moved to Memphis, where that city's music, created by Soul legends, quickly captivated her. To help pave her own way to greatness, she studied singing and performing arts throughout high school and college. She competed and won over judges in several talent contests. Her electrifying, musical gift impressed all who heard her! Her passion and drive led Melina to a Latin music band in Memphis, "Orquestra Caliente". Melina and Caliente became a Memphis (and regional) sensation. They played before sold-out audiences, and on historic Beale Street (known worldwide as the Home of the Blues). Melina's accomplished voice talents, which range from the live rhythmic cadences and whoops of salsa and merengue, to the captivating romance of boleros, to the griping and lively variants, of jazz and of soul, plus her superb stage presence and stunning beauty, electrify crowds at every performance. They adore her raw talent, energy, charisma, sex appeal and style-a combination that only comes around once in eons. La cantante/compositora puertorriqueña, quien vive en Memphis, Tennessee está al borde de la fama internacional con su CD "Rumba, Salsa, Soul Delight". Este CD terremotea el curso actual de la música Latina con una fusión de Soul y Salsa-mezcla muy singular nunca antes oída. Sus canciones, tal como la energética "Sweetness" (en Inglés y Español), son melódicas, intrigantes, y crujientes. El CD, hecho en Puerto Rico centellea con la sensualidad de "Extasis", el romance de "Cuatro", la inspiración de "Beautiful Thing", y con la honda emoción de "Eres Así". El CD es una colección de "hits" potenciales que explora e interlaza los géneros de Soul y Salsa, a la vez que expone la autenticidad de Melina.
Melina vivió en San Juan hasta los 12 años.
