(February 1, 2008): Exclusive studio and live tracks comprise the lineup of the now available 3-CD benefit compilation from pro audio equipment manufacturer Electro-Voice and parent company Robert Bosch North America LLC. 100% of the proceeds raised through the sale of the CD will be donated to the Minnesota Helps: Bridge Disaster Fund™. The benefit originates from Electro-Voice’s historic and current artist endorsement program and the global philanthropic efforts of its parent company, Robert Bosch North America LLC, a division of Bosch, globally renowned for innovations in the automotive, power tool, appliance, security, and heating technology industries, among others.
Bosch Communications Systems Vice President, Americas, Tom Hansen remarks: “In keeping with the Bosch tradition of philanthropy, we decided to turn this well-meaning concern into charitable action, inviting friends of Electro-Voice from across all musical genres to participate in a benefit CD Project: Musicians for Minneapolis: 57 Songs for the I-35W Bridge Disaster Relief Effort. We’ve also partnered with major music retailers and hope to make a significant financial contribution to the relief fund. Electro-Voice (EV) has been a part of America’s musical community for 80 years, so it’s great to see such a wide range of artists join forces to support EV’s local community in a time of need.”
In tandem with the release of Musicians for Minneapolis: 57 Songs for the I-35W Bridge Disaster Relief Effort Electro-Voice will also be launching a celebrity memorabilia charity auction for the same cause, which includes two signed Les Paul guitars from Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society guitar phenom Zakk Wylde, a Dean bass signed by all members of Megadeth, a custom Minarik Dick Dale flame guitar, and an Ibanez guitar signed by guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, among other items to be listed in upcoming days at www.electrovoice.com/musicansforminneapolis.

Musicians for Minneapolis: 57 Songs for the I-35W Bridge Disaster Relief Effort 3-CD compilation comprises:
Dedication
This compilation is dedicated to the survivors and those who lost their lives on the I-35W bridge, August 1st, 2007—and to their families and friends, the rescue teams and volunteers. God bless.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Shortly after 6 p.m. on August 1st, 2007 — during the height of rush hour — the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge in Minneapolis collapsed. Media coverage was almost instantaneous and soon our beloved city became the nation’s focus. Helpless, we sat glued to the television while first responders risked their own lives to save the lives of others. We made calls to determine the whereabouts of family and friends; anxiety grew as the minutes and hours wore on. The images were grisly and surreal. This was not our Minneapolis. Yet, at this moment Minnesota and the rest of the world held hands — and prayed all were safe. As Rockie Lynne writes: “We pulled together. We showed the world grace, dignity and honor as we wrapped our hearts around our fallen families, searched for survivors and cared for our wounded.”
Help was immediate and came in many forms: the selflessness of victims helping victims; our courageous police, fire, and rescue teams; emergency blood donors; and funds from private citizens and corporations around the world.
Like countless others, we also wanted to help. As a Minnesota-based professional audio equipment manufacturer with a large global parent company that has made social responsibility part of its core value for over 120 years, we felt obliged to help our neighbors and knew we could do something more than just write a check.
The very next morning we began receiving e-mails and phone calls from various partners and friends in the music industry. They wanted to know how they could help. And then, an epiphany: A benefit album, a celebrity memorabilia auction, and a benefit concert, whereby all proceeds would be donated to Minnesota Helps — Bridge Disaster Fund™. Autographed guitars began showing up at our door from the likes of Megadeth, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Dick Dale, and others. Likewise, some of the most recognized names in the music industry began sending songs for use on the benefit album. Fast forward two months and we had amassed enough material to fill 3 CDs — a total of 57 songs — nearly 4 hours of music! A colossal collection of songs spanning indie rock, modern rock, metal, country, folk, blues, Americana, jazz, funk, hip-hop, r & b, and reggae genres — and many songs that defy classification — from Australia to Germany to NYC, New Orleans, Miami, Nashville, Tucson, L.A., San Francisco, to Portland and many points in between, here are 57 Songs meant to lend spiritual support to those affected by the disaster and help Minnesota remember, reflect, rebuild, and heal.
We thank you for your donation by purchasing MUSICIANS FOR MINNEAPOLIS: 57 SONGS FOR THE I-35W BRIDGE DISASTER RELIEF EFFORT™. We hope that you enjoy this fantastically eclectic compilation. — Electro-Voice

“Life’s highway has many mile markers. Certain events and occasions shape how we define our very existence: high school graduation, our wedding day and the birth of a child. Most of these events are memorable times in our lives that we reflect fondly upon.
Other such mile markers are not.
Every once in a great while something happens that shakes us to our very core. It frightens our souls and freezes that moment of time in our memory forever. JFK, The Challenger space shuttle disaster and September 11 are times we all remember where we were and what we were doing at that exact moment.
August 1st, 2007, is one such event, not just for Minnesota but also for our entire nation. We stood motionless, numb and in disbelief as we heard the news, praying this must be some mistake. Not here. Not in our great state. We worried about our own families and our hearts broke for those families who, in that one moment in time, lost everything.
Then in our darkest hour, in the instant when most would find no reason to go on, Minnesota, as it always does, showed its strength and compassion.
The angels came from everywhere. From the cars fortunate enough to be saved—from the surrounding homes and playgrounds—from our amazing police, fire and rescue workers. We pulled together. We showed the world grace, dignity and honor as we wrapped our hearts around our fallen families, searched for survivors and cared for our wounded. Minnesota exemplifies what America is all about. I am proud to be one of you. This song is from my heart to yours.” – Love, Rockie

“It’s hard to say something about this event. I’ve always had tremendous respect for Minneapolis just through the musical connection: Prince, Morris Day and the Time, Eric Leeds, etc. There was a time when I wanted to move there, to try out for Prince’s band! A whole style of music comes from your city, so it must be special, but it doesn’t matter where a city is when a tragedy like this happens, and we are just glad to be a part of any support that music can give. Thanks for the opportunity to help. It rocks, just for you! Hope you like it, and I hope it helps...” – skerik

“The I-35W bridge disaster in Minneapolis hit home to me because not only have I been over that very bridge dozens of times, but I tour the country for a living and go over bridges and overpasses hundreds of times a day. I can’t imagine the horror that it brought to all those who were there that day, not to mention the entire city of Minneapolis. It’s the very least I can do to offer a song up for this very great compilation–it’s for a great cause.” – Deke Dickerson

“When we heard of that tragic accident, which nobody would really expect in our oh so modern times, we really felt for the people in the city of Minneapolis and especially for the bereaved. Once more, it has been shown that we have to be more aware of our lives and our unconditional trust in things that are beyond our control. “Speaking aloud in attempts to alleviate, words only fail up against the shoulders of the severely stricken. Especially tender is a community in grief, who stand together for the fallen, and for the survivors of impossible heartbreak. May music only aid in the suffering time needed to heal. An offer here of rhythm and melody where words can have their place to comfort and offer a thread of repair. Side by side, may the hours tick by more softly with the lull of tune and swaying meter, from this moment to the next, from this world to the following one.” – howe

“Minneapolis was top o’ the list of places I wanted to play when there was even the thought we could get out of Australia. Obvious as hell to anyone who had half a clue that i copped so much from rock bands tumbling outta that city, and wanted the band I played in to have a semblance of what i got from those miscreants. I’m a Twins fan too. As a kid in Sydney watchin’ Kirby Puckett slice it up was a big thrill in the wee small hours. We drove over the bridge four times just days before it went down. To play the 400 again was ace, to watch families and friends get torn apart by the collapse was horrible, and only hammered into us once again what lucky drongos we are. To MPLS. From a bunch o’ convicts.” – Tim Rogers & You Am I

Musicians For Minneapolis
author: SamueleBesides being for a good cause, I got this album to hear Steve Vai's contribution to the project. I can say that it was really worth it. To me, the song "Without Me" alone is worth the purchase-it's so beautiful and meaningful. But there are other songs which I enjoyed listening to: Chanson d'Acadie (BeauSoleil), One Better (Les Claypool), The Wedge (Dick Dale), I'm in the Mood for Love (Joey DeFrancesco), Send in the Clowns (Mark Kozelek), Mistery Train Kept A Rollin' (Stray Cats), Back in the Sugarcane (Artie Tatum) are some of them. If you get this album, you won't be disappointed, there's music for every taste in there.
