notes

There’s no doubt that Cherokee recording artist Michael Jacobs is a remarkable and creative musician. An amazing singer, his passionate delivery is impressive. He sings like he means it… because he does.

But Michael's skills as a songwriter - a painter with words and music - are what set him apart. His incredible blend of Native American and American “roots” music – a mixture of pop, rock, and folk - artfully fuses contemporary and traditional sounds and powerful imagery. His songs are the stories of life: of the past, present, and future - of beauty and pain, hope and heartache, and of love lost and love found.

Michael’s debut solo CD, Sacred Nation, received the 2003 Native American Music Award for Best Independent Recording.

  • Part One of a great music trilogy...so far!

“Stronger” was the first of Michael Jacob’s songs that caught my ear-I was so glad when I found it on this site! This is music that lifts me up. I like the powerful beats & soaring vocals. The lyrics have so much meaning-tying history, tradition, spiritual seeking into one. I find hope. I’m not an Indian, yet still I feel a connection & would love to see this man gain much recognition for his talents, his Spirit given gifts that he shares in his music.

  • Sacred Nations is a heartfelt inspiring album of Spiritual healing.
author: Ken Tankersley, Native American Studie, Northern Kentucky Univer

Sacred Nations is an album, which reminds us that the answers to the questions we have about the future can be found in the past. Its songs ask us to forgive, but not forget: The Trail of Tears, Sand Creek, Wounded Knee, and countless others. The songs on the CD remind us that we are pitiful two-legged creatures that walk into the future in the footsteps of our ancestors, in a Sacred Way. It is an album of the 7th generation. Sacred Nations is the first of what has become a beautiful and inspiring trilogy, which includes They Come Dancing and The Journey. Your Spirit will fly, and your heart will feel good as the music takes you on a journey from the past, through the present, and into the future.
