notes
They did it. They really did it. It's over. Now we won't hear any new Moes Haven music until 2012.
After recording 365 albums and releasing 12 of them in 2006, Moes Haven is taking a long break.
Of course, Matt Farley and Tom Scalzo are not going to stop writing amazing, groundbreaking music. They're already working on the follow-up to DECEMBER. But they won't release another song until five years from now.
Why?
Who knows! There's no point in trying to understand what motivates Moes Haven. Lots of people wondered why the boys felt the need to force themselves to record so much music in 2006. They offered no explanation on than that they thought it seemed like a fun project. Was it fun?
"Yeah," says Matt Farley. "It was lots of fun. And it forced us to write probably 100 more good songs than we would have otherwise recorded this year. Besides that, there are more than 1000 terrible songs that we also wouldn't have recorded. But those songs are funny too...not that I'd want to let anyone listen to any of them."
With DECEMBER, Moes Haven goes out with a bang. You'd think they would have phoned in the last release of the year. But this album finds the boys continuing to challenge themselves. It's very difficult to fathom. If a band comes out with two albums in one year, it's noteworthy. Moes Haven released twelve in one year. And they were all recorded in 2006.
It's truly amazing.
And besides these twelve albums, there are the 10 others that were released in 2004 and 2005. Those album were recorded between 2000 and 2005. Not quite as prolific as '06, but still impressive.
So Farley and Scalzo are taking a break. They're giving the world a chance to catch up with these most impressive, historic years that will one day be recognized by the world for what it is.
Until then, Moes Haven will continue to create anonymously. Anyone who can't wait five years to hear their new music, listen to "Moes Haven's Five Year Plan" for a detailed description of where new Moes Haven music can be found in 2010. It's destined to become the greatest treasure hunt in the history of rock music!
