You've probably heard about the band that recorded an album for every day of 2006. You probably figured that any music produced so hastily couldn't possibly be worth listening to.
You were wrong.
VICTORY IS OURS! (FOR NOW) is the perfect CD for everyone out there who doubted that Moes Haven could write and record anything worthwhile within the guidelines of their frantic, almost nonstop recording sessions of 2006. These are the sixteen best songs from the project.
Of course, there are plenty more great songs where these came from. And, once you've listened to this disc, you'll want to hear all of the monthly releases from 2006, which put together the best tracks from each month's worth of recording.
But this is the best place to start. Every song on this album is a classic. You get a little bit of everything from Farley and Scalzo. There are the perfect pop tunes ("Let Me Tell You 'Bout a Girl I Met," "Sandy's Photo," "Inappropriately Detailed Response"), the superb ballads ("Rattletrap," "Isn't This Spectacular, Kite Flying?") and some exceptional Moes Haven takes on folk songs ("Canadian Fisheries," "Black Lake").
Best of all, each song on this disc is unlike anything you've heard from any other band. With Moes Haven, you never hear the same song twice. Seemingly straightforward love songs start to sound subversive and twisted upon further scrutiny. And the music is so catchy that it takes a while to recognize that it's also deceptively complex.
