Funky instrumentals combined with sweet soulful vocals.

notes

Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, known affectionately as "Mo Pleasure", began playing acoustic piano at the age of four and by his early teens, Mo mastered several instruments including bass, trumpet, guitar, drums and violin.

Upon receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from University of Connecticut, Mo began his professional music career, playing bass with Ray Charles. He then began working as a session musician and backing various performers crossing Jazz and R&B, such as, George Duke, Natalie Cole, Dianne Reeves, Jonathan Butler, Rachelle Ferrell, Michael McDonald, Oleta Adams, Roberta Flack, Marcus Miller and Frankie Beverly and Maze, to name a few.

From 1989 through 1992, Mo was both keyboardist and musical director with saxophonist Najee, pianist Alex Bugnon, and vocalists Philip Bailey, Patti Austin and Jon Lucien. In 1993, he became a member of the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire, and the band's musical director in 1994. Mo was featured playing keyboards, trumpet and guitar with Janet Jackson's 2001 "All For You" tour and is currently playing keyboards and trumpet with Boney James' 2004 "Pure" tour.

Mo's first offering as a solo artist is, Elements of Pleasure, which demonstrates his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist. The lyrical movement of the piano, the soulful sounds of the trumpet and flugelhorn and the funky rhythm of the bass are the elements that touch the heart, mind and soul. The music is a combined collaboration of instrumental funk and soulful vocals, reminiscent of his many musical influences. The CD features Philip Bailey on "Lover's Groove" and Michael McDonald, Oleta Adams and Peabo Bryson on "We Are One".

  • Smooth jazz Pleasure

Way too much talent for one individual to possess. Every instrument that Morris Pleasure touches is played with both honest emotion and skill. I'm giving this Cd 5 stars. Track after track speaks to the jazz lover in us all. Had the pleasure of meeting Morris after a concert he MD'd for the artist Maxwell. This guy was cool and down to earth just like his music.

  • Great Album...get it NOW!
    author: Torben

What a bomb! Thanks for that wonderful album, Morris. Well done! It sounds fresh with much Soul and Jazz! Actually i like every track on the CD. Interesting: "Morocco" sounds like "Incognito" (band from the U.K.), nice to hear Philip Baileys Voice on "Lover's Groove"! Fantastic Version of "In the stone"...By the way: I'm from Germany, I received the CD very fast...within a week - and everything was ok!!

  • Blown Away and the Boys Love it TOO!
    author: Brett McCarty

After recently tracking down Mo--having lost touch for a few years--I was anxious to hear his solo work. My sons and I are really enjoying the music. The boys love the fact that "mummy knows him!" WAY back when, everyone knew Mo had talent, it's so rewarding to see that he had the confidence of his convictions to follow his passion which has brought so much joy to so many people. Thank you.

  • I can really recommend this album for jazz-fans
    author: carmen klebusch

my absolut favorite is "beyond the stars". My husband is making the dj every now and then, everybody was asking him about this song, since all latin and jazz-fans loved dancing to it."only at night" is the second favorite (also for dancing). More for listening I liked "summer fling", "together again", your version of "tokyo blue" is really nice and I love "we are one", were several different artists are singing together . Out of "bahia" a longer music-piece would be nice, too. greetings from germany carmen ps.: i received the album after 8 days, because it got "stuck" in the customs on the way from the usa to germany, but I think thats ok.

  • Great Music! Great Musicianship!
    author: Steve Thompson

This is great old skool vibe music with modern day production. Some great tracks with some fantastic playing/musicianship. My favs are "Dance with me" and a Brill version of one of my favourite EW&F tracks "In The Stone",the groove is wicked!. I'm sure Maurice White would be impressed!

  • Good stuff
    author: DML

This is good stuff for everybody. Here's a great example for young people who haven't heard real music from real musicians. Good ear candy and good education. Thanks, Mo Pleasure!

  • The best jazz fusion set of 2004
    author: Barry Towler (Soul Express)

Morris Pleasure collaborates with some of the classiest names in the business such as Larry Dunn, Sonny Emory, Reggie Young, Maxayn and Philip Bailey to craft a fantastic CD. This blend of jazz and soul really kicks the proverbial backside and highlights, if highlighting be necessary, how bland and soulless "smooth Jazz" is. Every track is a winner and my favourite is the beautiful Philip Bailey sung ballad, Lover's Groove. Beautiful, varied, vibrant and essential. Definately for lovers of real soul and jazz.

    author: Creamypeaches

The Elements in this CD will bring you nothing but Pleasure. It is rhythmically soulful and the collaborations are without a doubt magical. You will feel this CD from beginning to end. It is obvious that a lot emotion went into it and it will render many emotions as you listen to it.

  • Place right next to your favorite albums from CTI
    author: Bob Davis - Soul-Patrol.com

This solo effort by the former member of Earth, Wind and Fire is one of the best CD's I'ver heard this year. It's an allstar cast including Philip Bailey, Maxayn, Larry Dunn, Boney James, Sheldon Reynolds, Pebo Bryson, Sheena Easton, Micheal Mcdonald and Soul-Patrol's very own love man WILL WHEATON. It's 'grown folks music' that you can place right next to your favorite albums from CTI from back in the day.

    author: Peter from germany

As a fan of Earth, Wind & Fire it was a must to get this album from the former musical director of EW&F. I love this album really. Morris has the groove. His interpretation of 'In The Stone' is the best I ever heard.

  • Very Smooth!

What a great combination of songs. It's very pleasing to the ears as well as making you tap your feet to the beat. Nice to hear music that can make you feel good. All the songs are well written and performed with heart and soul. Thanks for giving my ears and real treat.

  • I Love this CD
    author: Suzy

I think that this CD is one of the best CD's that I have heard in a long time. All of the songs are great. It's hard to have just one favorite song, I just listen to the whole thing from beginning to end. Definitely a "Must Have" in your CD collection.

  • Chalk full of soul from beginning to end..
    author: Patti LeMarr

This is one of the most refreshing smooth jazz CDs to hit the market in a VERY long time. It is a true combination of Mo's talent and his ability as a producer to work his brilliant and versatile instrumental magic with this superb array of vocals from the artists on this CD that call Mo their friend. I hear a "single" in every song....this is a MUST-add to your jazz collection. Anyone who buys this CD will be in a very select group to get in on the beginning of what I feel will be one of the most Pleasurable eras to explode onto the American jazz scene!!
