Nan Geary grew up in Kansas and went to a convent school; both of these stark landscapes have influenced her art. Early on, she fell in love with rhyme and meter - in words and music - and she never got over it. She likes to write music that is singable and poetry that is accessible without a decoder. Her other loves include Gregorian chant, Celtic music, swimming pools, Barbara Kingsolver's prose, Mary Oliver's poems, scented teas, Jimmie Spheeris songs, sleeping late, Andy Matter, astronomy (and her favorite astronomer), and most cats.

author: Larry GodleyNan Geary is one of the most prolific and gifted songwriters I've ever had the good fortune to hear. This collection, culled from cassette archive recordings of her early work, is a digitally restored and remastered treasure trove. Her imagery is breathtaking and her voice gives new meaning to an old cliche: She sings like an angel. Listening to this CD is like hearing Nan live in your living room (assuming you have a piano there). The production is simple and intimate, with no studio tricks or tedious overdubbing distractions. You might even catch a flubbed piano note once in a while... Nan just playing some songs for an intimate gathering of friends. The effect is disarmingly frank and refreshing. And the material is... well, words fail me. Her words are much better. Go to her site and read the lyrics. In a civilization teetering on the edge of collapse, polluted by poisonous fast food, bombs and more bombs, SUVs, a stolen presidency, heat waves from hell, and a corporate media run amok, this pure little gem is a balm to soothe and give hope.
