notes
Neurepublik’s “Ostentatious” is one of the bands best efforts to date. The album was originally released in 2002, but stayed largely under the radar due to limited distribution. In 2007, after the completion of their “Popscheiße” album, the band agreed that Ostentatious deserved another chance.
“Ostentatious” continues along the path set by their popular 2001 release “Gotik Neuromantik”. A unique hybrid of moody gothic-tinged melody with electronic reinforcement, it is a sound experience unique to Neurepublik. This album is a bit more dance oriented than it’s predecessor, as evidenced by tracks such as “The Vampire Skank”, “Come Undone”, and “Emptiness Machine”. There are also some excellent brooding offerings like the songs “All Hallow’s Eve” and “Christmas In Babylon”. “Crying Alone”, the standout single from “Ostentatious” is included in both it’s full-length album version and it’s shortened radio form.
If you missed it the first time around, you owe it to yourself to check out this remastered re-release by one of the most innovative dark electronica bands to come around in quite a while.
