notes
Nijole (nee-YOH-luh) Sparkis is a true Lithuanian-American artist - born and raised on Chicago's South Side in a tight-knit Lithuanian community, she combines her American pop music instincts and song structure with the Lithuanian love of singing and choral harmonies she grew up with. (Lithuania is the country that staged the Singing Revolution in 1991.)
While Nijole grew up singing and acting in the Lithuanian language, her ears were drawn to certain exotic elements in American rock found in such hypnotic songs as Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit", Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir", George Harrison's "Within You/Without You", or the David Bowie "Lodger" album, all of which have an Eastern influence and which inform Nijole's music. Her studies of Jazz and 20th Century Music at De Paul University -- where she earned a Music Theory degree magna cum laude -- helped give her the vocabulary for what she was hearing, resulting in strong memorable melodies with haunting chord progressions.
Since then, Nijole toured the Midwest and played clubs and festivals in Los Angeles with all-originals bands, as well as acted in performance art and avant-theatrical shows and college films. She also opened her own voice teaching studio, The Vocal Point, taught singing at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and had a brief stint teaching singing for the Disney Channel.
Nijole recently sang the Theme Song for the DVD release of "Timothy Leary's Dead". Her favorite female vocalists are England's Kate Bush, Australia's Lisa Gerrard, Ireland's Sinead O'Connor, Norway's Anneli Drecker (Bel Canto), Russia's Milla Jovovich, Scotland's Eddie Reader, Canada's Loreena McKennitt, India's Najma, Morocco's Amina, and Egypt's Natacha Atlas.

Exotic excursion
author: Peter AglinskasExotic, atmospheric arrangements and compositions make this CD a must-have for those who crave an exceptional musical experience. The digital manipulations of vocals and instruments by producer/arranger/alchemist Fritz Heede seamlessly fuse the ancient and the modern into a truly unique amalgam. Bridging the space between Sufi seether and soulful seduction, Nijole takes her amazing vocal range on a breathtaking excursion.
Touched Me On All Levels

The vocals are beautiful, they have great tone and depth and the words are meaningful. The notes and melodies are interesting to listen to. Overall the whole CD is passionate and uplifting.
What I want my baby to listen to
author: Tangee Veloso-PueblosThe spiritual lyrics and captivating melodies of Nijole’s cd truly moved me on so many levels. The best way to describe it is a musical shift to a higher consciousness. Some say babies can become more intellectual while listening to classical music in the mother’s womb...I feel that the words combined with the rhythms and beats of this cd can create the same effect, if even more of a transformation...that’s how beautifully empowering this cd is!!
What soul-searchers have been waiting for!
author: Art CollectorFinally there is an aural equivalent of the film "What the Bleep"! If you want to "Create Your Day" (ala Dr. Joe Despenza, the most often referenced interview of the film) by consciously deciding to live it, then this CD is for you. The music is Alternative with a World flavor, musically evocative, blissful and haunting in its lush harmonies. Music is far more entrenching in the subconscious and elevating to the beleaguered soul than reading can be. I listen to it in the morning and the songs keep coming back to me all day long. Not since Bjork have the spiritual sensibilities of these lyrics inspired me more.

It's a virtual cave where the ethnic meets the electric, where time-space line fades... where all is yet forming before it materializes in the Universe on a Time and Space line.
