NILS LOFGREN has been recording and touring for 37 years. Known for his work with Neil Young, Ringo Starr and as current guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, Nils will be touring all year to promote his new CD (check www.nilslofgren.com for dates).

Featuring a duet with Willie Nelson on "In Your Hands", classic Crosby & Nash harmonies on "Frankie Hang On", and a great Grin duet with old bandmate Bob Berberich on "Can't Take The Rock", SACRED WEAPON is sure to be a classic for Lofgren fans.

  • Nils music is always dead on musically

    Nils music is always dead on musically while the lyrics to some of his songs can be a little quirky. It makes for an occasional strange dichotomy between the two. Nils also plays it close to the heart with a great deal of his music, seemingly unfettered when revealing himself to every one who will listen. Sacred Weapon holds true to all that. The music and lyrics in "In your Hands" fall into the sublime category while tunes like "Fat Girls Dance" and "Hard Core" tend to make you scratch your head a little, thru it all the music hangs tight and true. Given all that the scope and breath of his work is truly amazing: I could listen to him all day. I can't say that about to many musicians. Personally I prefer "Breakaway Angle" to "Sacred Weapon"… It is a much more thoughtful piece of work while "Sacred Heart" seems to be reaching back to his more rocking days and finding only moderate success. Better yet, his most recent live double cd is fantastic. Nils Lofgren Band Live *****, Breakaway Angel ****, Sacred Heart ***.

    An album that grows in stature the more you listen to it. Seems to start gently and rocks up towards the end. The best of Nils' studio album since 'Damaged Goods' to which it has some similar production quality and sounds. An interesting and creative mix of songs. Highlights for me are the uplifting 'Come a day' and the passionate plea of 'Frankie hang on'.

    Another good CD from Nils. Musical quality is never an issue, it's always top notch. However, the album starts great on track one, but doesn't sustain the feel until track 6, and then keeps on going till the end. Perhaps track 1 should have been later in the list ? Though it's still worth playing whatever I say......

    Nils puts thought and emotion into each gut-wrenching lyric and note. He's tapped into whatever "it" is on this CD. It's melodic, yet soulful. It's easier to sing along with your heart rather than your voice. He has mastered expressing himself.

    Each individual release from Nils Lofgren is unique and seldom treads the same ground as previous, and this CD is no exception. On first listen I was a bit disappointed, having expected a full on rock out, and some of the key tracks such as In your hands and Comfort verge rather too close to country music. However, further on in the track listing were some 'foot to the floor' rockers (Fat girls dance, Mr Hardcore) and some reaaly spiritually uplifting lyrics and music (Comes a day) and really passionate singing, playing and songwriting. In short, this album is a 'grower' and will reward repeated concentrated listening. Let yourself be immersed in this music and have your soul, spirit and emotions touched and marvel at some of the finest guitar playing this side of Hendrix.

    great packaging, awesome lyrics, inspirational guitar along with all of the other cool instruments nils used. saw him at the rams head in baltimore and heard some of these songs live--fantastic and encourages the listeners to go out and purchase this cd.

    For my $, Nils is the best Rock guitar player since Hendrix. Great technique,melodies,rythm, originality, versatility, etc. This album has plenty of that plus some of his better song writing, which has always been alleged to have been his weakness. One of his best albums in a long time! Believe!

    the musicianship is superb as usual, however the songs range from fair to excellent. an uneven but sincere effort in regard to songs. still, a worthy effort from an artist that remains true to the music.

    Love the opening track with Willie Nelson, but who will fill Willie's shoes when Nils tours the UK? Also love the spiritual message in Comfort Your Love Brings. Other favourite track at the moment is Trouble. I've been playing the CD in work trying to enlighten more people into what they are missing by not knowing of Nils.

    This is one of the best records of the year, for sure. It starts with some slow and melodic songs, like 'In your hands' but towards the middle Nils starts to rock with instant classics as 'Come a day', 'Frankie hang on' or 'can't take the rock'. If you like good music and great guitar playing, you won't be dissapointed

    Another WONDERFUL album by a terrific artist that radio unfortunately won't play. In Your Hands is an instant classic. The album flows really well and Nils is in fine voice. The interplay between Guitar, Accordian and Piano wrapped around the sweetest vocals around is incredible. Can't wait for the live shows!

    OK, the five stars may seem high, given that I don't think every song on the album is perfect (I could've done without Pay Your Woman). However, several songs are so far beyond five stars -- Whiskey Holler, You're Not There, Comfort Your Love Brings, Come a Day -- that they dominate my impression of the entire album. Plus, it's a great display of Nils' musical moods, from dirty blues to acoustic country ballads to soaring rock sing-a-longs. And as everyone notes: the guitar work is amazing (but also check out his fabulous drummer, Timm Biery.) This is the best album of 2006 so far.

    A really nice piece of work from Nils Lofgren. Not a gem like Acoustic Live but by far better than Breakaway Angel. The cd grows on you and it reflects the many talents of Nils both as a singer and as a songwriter. Recommended!

    Nice to have some famous guests on backing vocals. Certain tracks develop after a few listens, and there's some fab guitar work (as you'd expect) on tracks like Come A Day, Frankie Hang On & Trouble. Standout for me is You're Not There - only wish is could have been longer..

    Nils incredible guitar playing as well as his song writing talents come through in this cd right from the start in the duo with Willy Nelson on the first title In Your Hands. Come A Day has a soulful message and a sound reminiscent of the E street Band. I have listened to this several times now and it is the type of CD that sort of grows on you. I highly recommend it.

    Terrible album cover but this may be the best stuff Nils has done in a long while.The album is very short.Only 41 minutes.But there is no filler at all which is fairly common on longer running cds.Some songs sound like Grin and some like early Nils.Nothing at all like his last album-Breakaway Angel.Reminds me too of the self titled Nils album from the late 70's.
