notes
A healthy balance of high energy pop, hauntingly good melodies, and an infectious live show is just part of what keeps The Nines at the top of many all-time greatest pop band lists. Being named North by North East's "Best unsigned Act" in 1998, allowed Canada's pop darlings the chance to release a second cleverly penned and supremely performed 4-song CD released on Universal. Eggers' songs have appeared on several hit Television shows, including Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, Joan of Arcadia as well as several others. The Nines released their second full length album, Properties of Sound, and immediately topped Canadian University Charts with the song, Melanie. The Nines have returned from a successful showcase in Hollywood and a tour of California, opening for Jason Falkner in Hollywood. The Nines have played a number of successful shows in New York City, playing New York's famous, CBGBs and The Knitting Factory.
Eggers has most recently been writing with other musicians including England's Andy Partridge of XTC. The Nines will be releasing their new album "Calling Distance Stations" in spring 2006, which was mixed by Jason Falkner, Joao Carvalho and John Adams. The new album features a co-write with Andy Partridge.

Super duper pop!!!
author: JonathanThis album is full of beautiful pop music for the heart and soul. Melanie is one of the best powerpop songs ever and it's as good as anything xtc, shoes,db's ever recorded. Truly wonderful!!!
Great POP music ! An all-time classic !
author: Jean-MatthieuHow can I sum up the mixture of Bliss, Ecstacy (XTC ?) and sense of rediscovering the true Essence of Pop I experienced when listening to this record for the first time ? I cried tears of Joy : each song here is carved in CLASSIC ! Being a long time XTC fan, I spotted glimpses of Partridge's tones in the voice of Steve Eggers (what a melodist !) but also and mostly sparkles of McCartney everywhere else : Melanie, How does it feel ?, Better (perfect power pop), I would never... Absolute gems ! Can't wait for the next one ! Hats off, guys !
Good stuff!!
author: JimYup, catchy songs, nice melodies. my only gripe is not so much that it's underproduced but more that many of the songs sound like demoes (and i don't just mean the bonus tracks). in any case there's definite talent there.
Great songs, great melodies - top class pop
author: Keith AitkenI bought this CD after hearing one of the tracks ("Melanie") on a NotLame sampler CD recently. Upon receiving it I was pleased to discover that the majority of the rest of the CD was also very good. Strongest influence I can discern here is Paul McCartney, mainly in the lead vocals, but also the songs - "Take Time" is vintage solo McCartney, in a good way. The first three songs are so infections they should come with a health warning - I've been humming them all weekend. There are a couple of weaker tracks ("Here it Comes", "Orange Blue") which sound like (and I think actually are) demos, but that doesn't detract for a second from the brilliance of the rest of this album.
This is a great album
author: Jeff ReynoldThis is an amazing album. Some of the best songs I've heard in ages and all on one album. Very beatley but still very unique.
awesome. Where did these guys come from...Mars?
author: Jim RoulliardCan't get over how strong this album sounds. Where did these guys come from? Excellent songs.
Great songs. I saw these guys open for Jason Falkner in LA last summer and the a
author: Bob TateGreat songs and what a voice. Kind of a mix between Mccartney and Andy Partridge. One pop gem after another I can see why this album is getting the praise it so richly deserves.
Good Tunes
author: Courtney Of Sumofus (-fellow Cdbaby Artist)I really like the songs on this CD. The vocals are very good. Their style reminds me of a cross between Reo Speedwagon and the Beach Boys. Love it!
