Nita began her musical journey by entering into a rich
family legacy of the love and study of classical
music, both voice and cello. In a sense, however,
Nita's true passion for music began when she found
jazz. Nita spent several years studying jazz vocal
technique beginning with bassist Carroll Dashiels, in
North Carolina. Upon moving to the Baltimore area,
Nita resumed her studies with Ethel Ennis, Stef
Scaggiari, Ronnie Wells and Ron Elliston, and most
recently being mentored by Ruby Glover. Nita spent
over a year and a half becoming active in the local jazz scene, sitting in with friends Bob Diener and Victor Dvoskin and performing at "Twins Lounge" in Washington as
part of the "Emerging Jazz Artists" program run by
Ronnie Wells and Ron Elliston.

Recently Nita has begun singing with "The Art of Meaning", a pop group she met after joining Baltimore Songwriters Association (BSA). Nita, a former Vice President of the BSA and Paul Iwancio, the founder, perform as the duo, "Take Two".

Nita was one of the winners in the"Billie Holiday Jazz Vocal Competition" in 2000. In 2004 Nita sang with Les Paul in New York City at The Iridium Club.

    On her Tradewinds of My Dreams CD, Nita Paul makes each song her own by infusing old standards with the angelic originality of her honey voice and by opening her heart to create original tunes. Trade Winds of My Dreams, the song, is a personal favorite, a very visual song that for me romanticizes the concpet of Bohemian coffee house Europe. Her talent for captivating arrangements, memorable melodies, and catchy hooks (such as the song Perfect Enough -- you're not perfect, but you're perfect enough for me!) is simply spellbinding. Her performance on the album reflects the lover of music she is, a musician in love with her art, satisfied yet stimulated by joyful excitement.

    Nita’s CD is so transcendently beautiful that for the time I listened to it nothing else in my life bothered me. I never really understood “Crazy” until this recording. Her voice is so rich, heroic, and yet mellow at the same time. I also loved “But Beautiful”. I was unfamiliar with it, but the opening melody reminds me of a negro spiritual in its purity and power. I am such a fool for Lorenz Hart-his song “My Romance” is a happy inclusion on this collection. Nita’s version of “I”ve Grown Accustomed” is a startling exquisite surprise-and I had grown weary of Rex Harrison’s rendition. The live version of “Tradewinds” is my favorite-especially the ending and the bass part. Let me also add what a pleasure it is to her Stef Scaggari and Steve Herberman backing up Nita. You have given me a reason to listen to jazz, bravo!
