Frankfort's own 'No Tools Loaned' Bluegrass Band Releases First Recording

The 'No Tools Loaned Band', a Franklin County, KY-based bluegrass band, has released their first recording, No Tools Loaned. The effort features 12 songs, three of which were written by NTL. No Tools Loaned is available on CD and cassette at personal appearances by the band or on the internet at www.cdbaby.com/notoolsloaned. The band appears frequently at popular bluegrass/folk festivals in and around Kentucky.

The 'No Tools Loaned' Band has been performing for the last three years, and is one of the area's premier bluegrass bands. Their unique mix of original songs, hot new bluegrass tunes, classic rock and folk, and western swing puts a fresh face on the traditional bluegrass sound. Tom Adler, co-host of WRVG radio, says "You've really got to hear 'No Tools Loaned' to appreciate their "third-generation" approach to bluegrass music, and this great CD will give you that opportunity. This band from Frankfort, Kentucky has made a great impact on their audiences in the two years they've been together. They manage to blend each member's deep respect and knowledge of bluegrass tradition with the whole group's up-to-date attitude and sparkling fresh sound. Jack, Paul, Wesley and Scotty are all seasoned veterans when it comes to picking and singing. Versatility, creativity, and experience are evident on every cut -- so put the CD in your player, kick back, and enjoy the unforgettable sounds of No Tools Loaned."

'No Tools Loaned' was recorded at Germfree Studio in Lawrenceburg, KY under the guiding hand of producer, recording engineer and mandolin player Paul Douglas Williams. The 'No Tools Loaned' Band consists of Scotty Campbell on banjo and vocals, Paul "D" Williams on mandolin and vocals, Wesley "The Wes Man" Atha on guitar and vocals, and Jack Burch on bass fiddle and vocals.

  • Great CD, very talented band
    author: Andy Rockwell

First heard NTL on PBS Jubilee, a great performance by the band. The whole CD is great, but Time Hurries On; Toy Heart; and Redwood Hill stand out as my personal favorites. We just came back from vacation to the mountains, I left all of my CDs at home by mistake so we ended up listening to this CD about 10 times :) I would have given this 5 stars, but the CD didn't display titles of the songs in my CD player. I'm not sure why. It's a 5 star performance, but a 4 star disk because of the titles.

  • Delightful and well designed; excellently easy on the ears
    author: Jana Hall

One of the things I really enjoyed about this CD is the way it was put together -- by that I mean the sequencing of songs. It had a nice flow and contrast in emotional content and musical style that I found charming. My only concern is: I hope I don't wear it out!

  • Excellant talent from the Bluegrass State!!!
    author: Keith

Excellant sample of some of the talent that is "unknown" from the Bluegrass State!! Tight vocals and excellant sounds make this a prime sample of what a group of guys can do!! Highly recommend for any bluegrass lover!!

  • Great Voices

I liked the songs and the way they were done. I liked the fast service in the mailing of the cd.

  • No Tools Loaned - Great
    author: Susan Campton

The c.d. itself is good in quality, although there is one song that is a bit boomy. I can tell because it vibrates my car stereo and hurts my ears a bit, but the music is great. My favorites are Some Old Day and Pass Me Not. Would love to have heard an acapella harmony song. Great job overall.

  • No Tools Loaned brings a unique perspective to Bluegrass music
    author: Bob A.

No Tools Loaned brings a unique perspective to Bluegrass music. From a traditioanl Country flair heard in Kentucky 'tis of the, to a refreshing Jazz mood in Moon Dance, No Tools Loaned captures a broad range of musical influence in this effort. Bluegrass Fans will not be disappointed in the arrangement of songs on this CD.

  • Very good hard driving bluegrass with some variations. Loved it!
    author: Dave Kiser

Very good bluegrass, with some variations by Paul. Great original song by Jackie. Good tight harmony on the vocals. Outstanding instrumentation, throughout the entire project. I am a bluegrass DJ and I play it on every show I do.

  • Excellant CD with great vocals and great, country, gospel music.
    author: Carl Sword

Great selection of lyrics for this first in what will soon to be many CDs for this soon to be critically acclaimed band. The music will totally captivate even the youngest of all bluegrass listeners. Perfect collection and collaboration of gospel soon to be hits. I will definitely be looking for future CDs from No Tools Loaned...

  • Great Stuff.... Can put this one on and let it play through!
author: Gracie Muldoon - Broadcaster WOBO 88.7 fm Cincinnati

The mixture of traditional and new bluegrass is "just right" on this first recording. I've played it " on air", and Kentucky Tis of Thee, an original composition, plus their version of Moondance, get the most comments and feedback, but it's All Good! These guys are going places! • Excellent mix of newgrass, traditional bluegrass, and original tunes.
    author: Steve S-N in Virginia

No Tools Loaned's versions of Good Woman's Love and Moondance, and their original, Time Hurries On, are highlights of this fine, regional effort. I like the mix of newgrass, traditional, and original music on this CD. A fine first release. I look forward to hearing more from this band.
