notes

Smell No Evil is a pop masterpiece for those with the
fortitude to unlock it. I, for one, thank you for
going to the trouble of serving up something original
and brilliant.

-- Andras Jones, actor and musician, The Previous, The
Attic Expeditions, Nightmare on Elm Street 4

---------------

I really like the new Ookla the Mok Cd! It's the best
one yet. You did a good job on my song, plus the song
before it acts great as an introduction.

-- James Kochalka, superstar, Monkey vs. Robot,
American Elf, The Cute Manifesto, "Hockey Monkey" (theme to FOX-TV sitcom The Loop)

----------------

I think and talk in phrases from Smell No Evil. AND,
it has rubbed off on many other people around me. I
have several friends both in music and not that have
been singing back your lines to me, and they haven't
even heard it yet... It's just so damn catchy from me
singing it all the time. So, congratulations on a
wonderful, incredible, powerful work of magic that I
am completely in love with.

  • Wow
    author: Hugh R. Bryars III

I took a chance on this because I loved "Oh, Okay LA" by these same guys. This one is even better. I can't stop listening to it! Highly recommended...

  • Can't wait
    author: Howard Thompson

I heard a lot of the songs off the OTM Fan website and love them all, so I had to finally get the album.

  • Rock opera about monkeys? What's not to love.
    author: Enigma O

I wasn't intending to buy this. Then I wandered onto the page, realised it was about monkeys and had to buy it. I haven't regretted it for a minute. Many of the songs stand alone wonderfully, but listen to them in order and it's like having the cd to a musical. Just a hell of a lot better.

  • my monkey wouldn't care if i were pretty, cool, or smart
    author: jennifer graham

the other reviewers do a great job of describing this album. i just like how the songs make me feel like i'm not alone.

  • Monkeys and Music. Beautiful.
    author: Fenwic

This CD is the epic tale of a possible fate of the Earth when a boy sneaks a monkey from the lab, his girlfriend accidentally causes the Histo-ray to de-evolve the entire planet, the monkey gets shot into space, while up there, the Earth's animals rise up and take over, with a climactic Gladiator scene between Blip and Gleek. I really felt like I was at the Dawn of the Day Before the Time of the Land the Lost Dinosaurs Forgot to Remember. You should go there, too. The music hints at uncountable influences, yet is completely unique. Catchy, singable, unique rock.

  • Strange and Good
    author: John Kensmark

It's strange. It's smart. It's ironic. Doesn't take itself too seriously. I like it. It sounds kind of like They Might Be Giants crossed with Fountains of Wayne and Barenaked Ladies, with hints of REM and The Bobs, plus a strong filk (not folk) influence. Is it for everyone? Probably not, but you can listen to samples of their songs, if you have the right software, to see if it might be right for you. I liked it enough that I'll buy more albums by these folks once I have the money.

  • Ambitious? YES. Silly? A LITTLE. Good? EXTREMELY!
    author: Killer Queen

Here's a rock opera about a space-rocket test-monkey and the boy who loves him. It's ambitious and maybe a little silly, but it works! The packaging is great, and the booklet alone is worth the price of admission -- it's phenomenal! Musically, it's solid and features some great guitar-playing. Rand and Adam's vocals are exceptional. The lyrics are clever and often poignant. I've never heard the words INSURGENCY IN CHAD, KNICK KNACKS, or EVERYTHING'S SO COMPLICATED used so effectively in song. And the songs really run the gamut of emotions. You'll be having a good time and then WHAM! your heart is breaking. I challenge anyone who's ever loved and lost to get through CONQUEST without cracking. The beauty of this CD is that you can have an enjoyable listening experience if you listen to it straight through from beginning to end OR if you play your favorite tracks in random order. It's like The Who's TOMMY -- sometimes you want the whole rock opera experience, but sometimes you just want PINBALL WIZARD. And that's OK because you win either way. BRAVO!
