notes

Ookla the Mok combines wit, style and sarcasm
into a fun sound.

-- Anthony Violanti, music critic, The Buffalo News

-----------------

Ookla the Mok is always in my CD changer for all my
comicsfolk parties.

-- Mark Waid, writer, Kingdom Come, The Flash, 52

-----------------

Really, REALLY great stuff -- I've enjoyed Super
Secret immensely and it's been one of my favorites
since I started listening to it.

-- John Totleben, comic book artist, Swamp Thing,
Miracleman

-----------------

This CD is great! Guggenheim Love is my favorite,
but I do find myself walking around chanting "Crap.
Crap. Crap. Crap" I'd love to do a CD cover and junk
for them.

-- Greg Hyland, creator, Lethargic Lad / author, The
Tick: Mighty Blue Justice

  • Could this BE any better?
    author: Fishy

If I could have Ookla The Mok chained up on the ground floor and Augean Stables upstairs, both playing for me when I'm in the appropriate part of the house, I think I could be happy. Do your ears and your brain a favour and buy this (and every other) album.

  • Super Skrull says one flaming and one stretchy thumb up!
    author: Todd

I started out not liking Mr P so much, but you just can't help rocking out to these guys. Smart lyrics with a twist of They Might Be Giants and Barenaked Ladies... plus their own brand of odd goodness. Super Powers is awesome and my favorite track, seconded only by My Secret Origin. Buy this album or Super Skrull will come after you!

  • If you like comic books, you'll love this
    author: Joe Block

These guys obviously know their comics and they've got good music to back up the lyrics. If you're looking for a gift for a comic collector, this is a great cd

  • If you've ever read a comic book in your life...
    author: Enigma O

... then you will love this CD. 'Stop talking about comic books or I'll kill you' lives up to the high expectations of the title. If you've ever listened to old cartoon themes, or know anything about the Fantastic Four, you'll love 'theme from Super Skrull'

  • When will these guys conquer the World?
    author: Nigel Clements

Sorry I can't keep this review short, the band are just too good, so I won't write the review at all, just buy the goddam CD, and you'll understand.

  • Another awesome CD from Ookla!
    author: MrGranger

I first heard this music on the BITE ME, FANBOY film. Wonderful music...thanks to the film I had to search for their CDs. Glad to find them here. Highly recommended.

  • Goofy Fun
    author: Mitchell Rentzler

They will receive a medal from the Skrull Empire for their song Super Skrull if the Kree don't get there first. The rest of the ablum is fun also (but the Skrull part is best). Sort of a grafting of the Kinks+Barenaked Ladies with a dash of They Might Be Giants Thrown in.

  • Funny and Geeky but probably not just for geeks.
    author: supermansbrother

These guys have the lyrics to keep you laughing and listening but there's more to it than just that. They use horns in a They Might be Giants way along with great guitars and harmonies. "Stop Talking About Comic Books or I'll Kill You" is something that every comic book geek (like myself) can experience every week when they pick up their new comics, by the way. Great CD.

  • absolutly SUPER!
    author: SPIDY

this cd was fantastic, it had the most amazing music and, well, ill have to check a dictionary for a word that means what i want to say, but otherwise, keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Clever and silly stuff with hints of things to come
    author: Dynamite with a Laserbeam

This CD features some clever and silly songs about comic books, superheroes, friends, a stalker ex-girlfriend, and more. Highlights include SUPER POWERS, STOP TALKING ABOUT COMIC BOOKS OR I'LL KILL YOU, MY SECRET ORIGIN and RISHATHRA, OR, PRIME DIRECTIVE SHMIME DIRECTIVE, which is a very funny song that tells a story about the band. Poor Rand!!! But he hits one out of the park vocally on SUPER POWERS! In general, the lyrics on this CD take center stage over the music, but these songs contain hints of the hooky pop tendencies that the band has been displaying more and more on subsequent albums.
