notes

Perfect imperfection in that Cosmic American (GP, thanks) sort of way. Call it what you will, but the bottom line is honest music. It's a living, breathing form.

Having lived in various parts of the American Northeast, Patrick Dunn is finding a home in the resurgence of the songwriter. His Americana sensibility and raw emotion recall a sense of timelessness scattered across generations. At the same time, there is something new; a modern idea that points forward. This undeniable combination has Patrick poised to claim his place in the evolving time line of Rock n Roll.

Patrick is also co-founder of Dirt Floor Records, an independent record label run as an artist-collective. Dirt Floor Records is the home of many of the best songwriters in the Northeastern US, and like any good home it promotes a sense of community among its members. DFR artists are known for working together both on the road and in the studio, and are always looking for new ways to promote the Dirt Floor family.

Patrick's latest album, "Down That Road" (2007 Dirt Floor Records) is the continuation of the American songwriter. It presents a journey to the listener that unfolds not only on each track, but over the entire album as well...

"Maybe down that road, we are all meant to go when we hear the voices call us home."

  • Another Great Album
    author: Donald N Palko

I'm impressed again with Pat's dynamic diversity in music and lyrics. I know Pat. I hear him in his music. CD Now says his style would appeal to those who like certain other great artists - to that I add Jerry Garcia - hear "Ourselves Alone". My Fav on this Album "You Better Get Far" !

  • Can't Stop Listening
    author: dewpace

Let me start off by saying it has been awhile since I have listened to a cd all the way through over and over, but that is exactly what I did with "Down that Road." Patrick Dunn's lyrics just stuck with me. He seems to write from his soul and my soul thanks him for it. If you want to be inspired, buy this CD. I promise you won't be able to put it down. Thanks to Patrick for his honest lyrics and heartfelt music. I am officially a fan!!

  • Dreamlike Essence...
    author: Julia R. DeStefano

Dunn's heartfelt tone and passion for soft-spoken melody easily allows audiences to discover its true beauty. With its rock, Americana and indie roots, there is a dream-like essence to this music. Dunn cites such artists as Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Ryan Adams and Tom Waits among his many influences. These are evident throughout his thought-provoking and soulful lyricism, sweetened ever so slightly by the sounds of acoustic and electric guitars, piano, harmonica and banjo. As co-founder of the independent label DirtFloor, Dunn has also worked closely with Eric Lichter, who lends instrumental, as well as background vocals to the album. Absolutely beautiful!

  • suck it ryan adams, patrick is the new alt-country king
    author: wade warren

While most alt-country rockers are beefing up their sound with gratuitous electronic gadgetry, down that road opts for a more tactile sound. Instruments twang, strings and frets squeak with each chord change, and Dunn's tenuous, conversational singing voice takes the softer songs to an engagingly intimate place, as though patrick had curled up on your couch, guitar in hand, to share a little tale or two. The harder, more upbeat numbers are playful and rock-y without drowning in instrumentation. It's the lyrics that tell the real story here, and though some may not be able to relate to the world according to Dunn. years from now, they may well hoard copies of down that road and marvel at its prescient insights.

  • heart 'n' soul

I heard the amazing song "Taylor Jane" at MySpace and had to have the record. Turns out Patrick Dunn has made a beauty of an album with shimmering dynamic songs and mellifluous voice. I love it.
