notes
If you look at the world through the prism of your own experiences, you'll see diversity, contradiction, the fight of the New against the Old - an eternal clash of generations, convictions, and styles. But make no mistake: There is no new thing under the sun. The Old presages the New, and the New is but a regeneration of the Old. The father carries his son within himself well before the son's birth. So does the son carry his father within himself, well after the father's death. Claude Debussy's ancestors included Mozart, Haydn, and Chopin. Samuel Barber was a child of Johannes Brahms. The Brazilian composers in this CD were born of a lustful marriage of Europe and Africa. "Old New Worlds" is a celebration of unity through diversity, of tradition through renewal, of the universal through the individual.

Great
author: GeorgeReceived CD in good shape. It is great music. Still playing it.
fascinating, versatile and well-crafted
author: Jonathan DimondPedro's performance is finely-crafted and gets to the guts of the composers' thoughts and feelings. The cello is adeptly accompanied by the pianists. A fine CD and well recommended.
