notes
Penny Watson is confused. Sometimes she's a jazz saxophonist, other times she's a singer. On this recording she does a bit of both, and the result is magic! Joined by some of LA's most talented musicians, she weaves tales of heartache and love.
Heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, James Taylor, and the singer/songwriters of their generation, Penny has come up with a unique blend of pop songwriting and more angular jazz arrangements.Listen and enjoy! And if you like what you hear please share it with others...

Penny Watson captures my jazz heart
author: Ventura County Jazz ReviewThis album is a rare example of how jazz can consume the technician and the poet simultaneously. I find myself closing my eyes and thinking, "I know what you mean". It is so refreshing to find such rich musical and lyrical content... together! I want to hear more. PLEASE!
Smooth and CD collection requirement
author: Anne DaniellsNice variety and a style that caught my family's attention at a reunion...now we all own the CD and are spreading the word. Worth every Penny!
The vocals are captivating, and the songs are extremely well written
author: Matt HendersonSometimes an album grabs you, and takes you to another place. This is one of those albums. I'm finding the music and the lyrics to be very captivating. I listen to the album often. This was a nice find, and I'll watch for further music from this artist.
What an amazing voice
author: Tom ListonThis cd is beautifully done. Penny's vocals are done so clearly with great feeling and energy. She sings so effortlessly. Her backup band also is wonderful. They really know how to support her. I'd recommend this disc to anyone.
Depth and magic...an inspiring combination.
author: Chaunte' KashiwaThis CD has become an instant favorite in my house. From the first eight bars I sensed that feeling I had when I heard Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark for the first time. Every song is artistically crafted and executed with a graceful strength and integrity that is nothing short of a masterpiece to behold.
silky smooth renderings of unique, heartfelt little gems
author: Ken TresederThe material really stands up to repeated listening. While the tunes vary, there's a definate feel and sensibility the carries through and unites the work. A songwriter that sings great and plays sax, too? There oughtta be a law! "I'm the One" is my favorite, but they're all well-crafted and played with a real intimacy that gently draws you in. Bravo.
