notes
"Top 10 to Watch in 2007"
- Magnet, Jan/Feb 2007
"The album's dozen tracks include moments of Radiohead's exquisitely crafted chamber angst, Jeff Magnum's chemically-altered, wide-eyed wonder, Jeff Buckley's angelic introspection and the Flaming Lips' finest flights of orchestral fancy."
- Corey duBrowa, Magnet, Oct/Nov 2006
"Peter Adams' songs are at once cathcy, thoughtful, multi-layered and atmospheric. Did we mention the kid's 22 and did it all himself? Wow..."
- Amplifier, March/April 2006
"Adams has a versatile vocal range, with his tingly falsetto ranking up there with Chris Martin of Coldplay or Matthew Caws of Nada Surf for pure thrill-factor."
- Mike Breen, CityBeat
Sounds like:
Flying through the rain at night, sitting under a burning tree, crawling into a hole in the wall, and waking up underwater.
Recommended for fans of Radiohead, Neutral Milk Hotel, Flaming Lips, and the Beatles.
A note for those who have ordered the album: Listen Harmony can only be heard by rewinding from track 1. Think of it as an optional opening track.

Amazing CD - a must-have - you will get hooked!
author: Kathy KealohaI have finally found a CD that I can listen to all the time- at work and play! I am addicted! The music is lite and the lyrics are timeless! Great, Great music! A must have for any music lover! What a pleasure!
Very well done
author: Joshua PiperVery well produced, nice sound, excellent song-writing. None of the typical tired, played-out chord progressions. Creative and inventive turns in the music and crafting of songs. Highly recommended.
Amazed
author: Adam BushI heard some of the songs on a podcast (The Independent Anthem, check it out) and was floored. I bought the album, and several listens later I am still wondering why Peter Adams' Spiral Eyes isn't all over. I would try to compare, but this music consistently defies genres. Great hooks, catchy, the kinds of songs you find yourself humming.

The only problem with this CD is that I have had a problem getting anything else done in the last few days because I am now hooked on this music. Well done. Tell Jacob I say hi Peter, and congrats on the great work. I'm giving copies of it to people for xmas. -Flanagan
This album took me by surprise, all-time greatness, seriously.
author: Christopher RubleI bought this album after a friend of mine suggested it to me. I heard the name Peter Adams a few times from some other fans who know their shit about music, so I checked it out. They should have hyped this album up even more; this isn't just a good listen, or something "you should check out." In years to come, when this album comes up to the surface a little more, after Peter is better known, this will be a "MUST OWN" album. This album should be considered essential and in every real music fan's library. I was shocked at the greatness of this album. I have been in a My Morning Jacket and Flaming Lips listening frenzy of late, but this album still made it's way onto my rotation because it is simply that GREAT. I didn't think this debut album would creep up my all-time list of favorite albums so fast. It's so scarily good, I consider it easily in my top 20 albums, ever. I'm not kidding. Great lyrics, great voice, well crafted songs, 5 zillion hooks, a instrumental freak (he did the whole album by himself). Every song is pretty much perfect, from start to finish. Every time I listen to the album I feel like I'm listening to somebody in the prime of their career, a veteran, like he has been crafting genius songs for years, but he didn't even start touring until this year and I think he's only 22 or so. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this guy. Whenever he comes out with a new album, I will be the first in line to buy it, and if it tops this effort, this guy will have the alternative music scene in the palm of his hands. Good day.
Just effortlessly wondeful
author: TintraxOnly young, but awfully good, this guy deserves to go far with his wonderful effortless melodies and appealing voice. Could be a Nick Drake for the naughties.
So good, it's hard to believe this self-released
author: Emil HydeSomebody better call Pitchfork Media and ask them why they aren't hyping Peter Adams to High Heaven. On this (I-still-can't-believe-it's) self-released LP, Adams crafts eleven elegant chamber-pop gems with just his guitar, voice, and a few well-chosen strings and electronic flourishes. The result is a sound that's minimal, yet full-bodied, soft-spoken, yet powerful. Fans of Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, the Notwist, and the Decembrists would be well advised to order a copy.
simple and nice
author: :)mariaso so beautiful. i did not stop playing it since i recieved it. looking forward to hear more. thank you!!!
Better than spending money on groceries...
author: Claire TillerWho needs food when they could own this CD instead? I first heard Peter Adams on 89.3 The Current in Minneapolis, and I knew that I needed to hear more. This CD is well worth buying! It is fresh sounding, the lyrics are smart, I love the use of violin on a lot of the tracks, and appreciate that Adams is a true artist - writes and plays all of his stuff. Every track is good, which doesn't happen so often these days. I am excited to hopefully hear more from Adams in the future.
Some of the best songwriting I've heard in years
author: Rick TemporaoIf the Garden State soundtrack was missing anything it may have been one of these wonderful offerings by Peter Adams on "The Spiral Eyes". HIs voice emotes sadness and urgency while his knack for beautiful, tense melodies will resonate in your bones. Tracks like the George Harrison-esque "More than you Know" show off the efficient hooky writing that never gets too sweet for its own good. From haunting turns to uplifting choruses, this is an absolute must listen. One of the best new songwriters I've heard in years.
accomplished and mature
author: ned henryThis CD caught me by surprise when I ran across a couple of the tracks on www.garageband.com. The Disappeared is so well-crafted and the hooks are just amazing and upon hearing that song, I bought the whole CD and it just gets better and better with repeated listenings!
Impressive album, immense potential
author: OliverOverall, an expremely impressive debut from Peter Adams, especially given that he wrote, recorded, and produced the entire thing on his own. The music sounds sophisticated, which is an achievement given that the sound is based on the layering of relatively simple harmonic lines. The balance is very nice on most of the songs and I particularly loved Adams' use of dissonance. I think the next step for Adams is to explore working with more complex rhythms and textures in his music, because I think there's a potential here for something really great.
If you buy one Album this year, make this it.
author: ChristophI have been waiting for this CD for a while, and it was well worth it. I can't wait to see what is next, especially since it was recorded in his bedroom studio, and solo on top of that. If you buy one album this year, make it this one.
Quite frankly one of the best CDs of the year
author: Silas DeRomaAnother five star review. Notice a trend? I heard cementalisque on a site that plays unsigned bands. Immediately, the hooks grabbed me, but the words brought me back time after time. So I bought the CD - I play it repeatedly. The depth of Peter's lyrics and the lush blend of his music are really marvelous - track after track. Buy this CD - you will love it.
Rare Find
author: billiamOnce upon a time people waited impatiently for the new Beatles, Pink Floyd, Dylan or other classic recording artist who put out an experince, rather than a 'recording' that sounded like everything else available. This CD is an experience, rather than a me-too product. A well crafted sonic marvel that should sit with every classic recording of the last 100 years.
Stop wondering and buy this CD
author: Jennica & HowardEVERY track on Spiral Eyes is great and I've listened to the whole thing at least 8 times already. I don't buy CD's, haven't in years, but I don't regret buying this one. It's well worth it, and worth supporting such a talented and creative artist. And CD BABY is an awesome company with funny confirmation and tracking emails, quick shipping, thoughtful customer service. THANK YOU PETER ADAMS AND CD BABY!!
Excellent Album, Instant Classic
author: Sam LiebermanThis CD is amazing. I fall into a state of euphoria whenever I listen to it (which has been all the time since I got it). The professionality of the CD is fantastic, and every song keeps me wanting more. Definately a must buy.
Amazing
author: Albert MartoranoThis is one of the best rock albums I've heard in a very long time. I'm looking forward to Peter Adams's very long and prosperous career.
How brightening melancholy can be sometimes!
author: MianekTry listening to this album in a gloomy mood - with all that knowledge about living a rather pointless life in a lousy time on a tacky, little planet. Well, since we are allowed to experience such a colossally gorgeous piece of music (without any squiggle or stuff ... it is just SONGS, but HEAVENLY SONGS)things cannot be that bad, can they? A song is a song is a song - thank you Peter Adams for this insight and for saving our planet from triviality. I mean, this man is painfully young and creates music that really means something - chapeau!
the cd was great, one of the best
author: steven breythe songs on this cd are great and entertianing. both good and catchy i listen to it everyday on the way to school. its so bad listen harmeny is a hidden track and the beggining of the first song dargs on to long and it boring but the actaul song is good. other than that great cd.
awsome
author: Dan T.These tracks are some of the best I have ever heard. Very origional. I wouldn't be surprised if the word spreads about this cd and lots of people buy it. Great job Peter.
GarageBand's Success
author: Cleanly Copacetic...Mr. Adams himself claims that music should be simple and that his indeed is. To a degree he’s right, but his brand of “violin soaked punk folk rock” is a musical masterpiece that far surpasses most other acts in musical composition. In just one song, he’ll have guitar (most likely capoed to a higher fret) with violins (which far surpass Yellowcard’s claim to fame) plucking arpeggios in the background and playing in the foreground, competent drumming, more than competent singing, and well-done effects. The lyrics are better happier than practically all I’ve heard from other bands lately, and done with a mellowness which insists you sing along. It’s hard to describe just what else this CD sounds like, but that it feels really good...

shit peter you got a page full of dick suckers here. talk about some ego stroking. next time i see you i hope you'll have a quintet of walnut groupie sluts following you around with the hope that maybe, just maybe, peter adams will allow himself to take the pleasure of one their nubile bodies. good work my dude.
Spiralling under the waves
author: steven abercrombieI'd have to say that Peter Adam's Spiral Eyes is an instant classic. Even though I only discovered Peter Adams through Garageband.com within the last few months I would place his work alongside the best music by The Beatles and Flaming Lips. It's a blissful balance of Melody and Noise, Abstract and Concrete ideas, It's lyricalness is matched only by the clever and tasteful musicianship. My favorite tracks include; The Dissapeared, Mr Grieves, More than you know and Cementalisque. My only problem with the CD was that the bonus track wouldn't play in my CD player or computer. A minor detail for such a masterpiece!
CD was brilliantly put together and made me smile.
author: BryantI enjoyed the variety of entrances of the songs and the variety that it brought to mymusic library. The diversity of the tracks was a nice mix of genres. The CD was well worth the money and i thank Peter Adams for a great CD. Keep up the good work.
the whole album is AWESOME, it sounds great
author: RoxanaThe firts song (listen harmony) is just great, with rythm and nice sounds. Then you will listen cementalisque which is the masterpiece of the album. The violin gives a very particular sound to the whole CD, you will enjoy every song. I also recommend Mister grieves and the invention of nuclear power.
Exciting, Something to savour like chocolate, only over and over and on fire.
author: SpencerI recieved this album for Christmas and waited three full days until i could sit alone at home and listen to it in the living room... only me and the stereo...because i had a feeling it was just going to be one of those albums. You know how it goes. After the first song i knew i was right. The Spiral Eyes is so refreshing--down to the very space between the album cover and the edge of the jewel case--that i see it as a collective entity; only to be played when i have time to listen to the entire cd. This because i never want to tire of it. There should be a sixth star on cd-baby reserved for Peter Adams.
Rich compositions, a feast for the ears
author: Daan RoksWith The Spiral Eyes, Peter Adams creates a fun and magical world which could only be compared with that of the Beatles Yellow Submarine. His compositions of violins, guitars and computer generated beats sound familiar and cannot to be found anywhere else these days.
music and lyrics rich, complex, purposeful… The Spiral Eyes is brilliant.
author: JuliaThis album landed in my mailbox the day after Christmas, on a full moon. I watched this moon shine, trailed by a thin streak of white cloud, tailed like a comet, as I motored through the slick snow. It was the day of the tsunami and I was going to see The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. In my turtle-shelled car, I listened to an album written in sheets of sound, its music and lyrics rich, complex, purposeful… The Spiral Eyes is brilliant. Its cover art is gorgeous. Quite simply one of the best albums to come along in a long while…and I am still discovering it. Looking forward to future projects…
- author: Great CD !
This CD is amazing Peter has out done him self. If you want to hear something new and untouched this is the CD for you ! Over all.... WOW!
Almost like talking through a fan as a child
author: Shadow Comics Music Forums ModeratorYou may have only recently stumbled upon it, but away from the commercialized corporate music scenes, there are still a few people who literally make music. The Spiral Eyes has such a variety of sound yet it stays perfectly original. Mr. Adams has a very unique and convincing voice, coupled with his violin it creates such a wildly innovative folk rock sound during a few of the songs, and others land on a complete other spectrum with catchy punk and rebellious melodies. It just can't be nailed into one genre and throughout this album creative intros abound. Is: New. Surely Will Be: Hip.
Potential is such a severe understatement
author: Alpha SentryPeter Adams has got his thinking cap on and no one has ever worn it like this before. The first time i heard his music on the internet a long time back i had no idea it was just him, by himself. If you launch yourself into the music production world with a cd like this, then...i just don't know what to say. He's so original; there's a reason the genre discription is so complex. Keep up the mega-awesome everything, Peter. This album will not disappoint you. If it does then you can personally come and give it to me and i'll find someone else who actually knows good music, sirs.
Great songwriting!
author: JoneseyI first heard Peter's music over a year ago on the web, and I'm very excited he's finally getting a full length cd together! Can't wait to have it in my collection. Peter's a great songwriter with a knack for melody, lyric imagery and production. He's also got a cool singing voice. It breaks up just right. I'm not a friend of his, just a fan far away who likes his music. He's got a very bright future.
Peter Adams is the most brilliant thing to happen to music in a long long time
author: LukaThis album flows in a very soothing and mind enticing way. It utalizes poppy, catchy elements that combine with deep thought provoking messages and moods to creat a hybrid like non-other. This album makes me believe once again that life is a special thing and that humans hold the key to the universe in their subconcious and imaginations. Bravo Peter!
Peter Adams is a one-man songwriting machine at its best!
author: Will BairdThis CD will certainly launch Peter Adams into a musical career. The songs are well written pop tunes that supercede anything presently heard on mainstream radio.
