Plan B

Plan B's road to the present is rooted over ten years deep in the past. While attending high school in Cary, NC, Rivera and Jensen met for the first time. A bond was instantly formed through a shared love of music that included a diverse blend of influences. The two began almost immediately to experiment with different instruments as well as writing extensively in notebooks and journals. Shortly thereafter, their first project Swamp Gas Charlie was formed and in a couple of months was selling out shows in the Triangle. This four-piece band went on to record a full-length album entitled "Loophole Rhymin'" and finished another set of recordings, "March of the Dragon Sessions", in Raleigh, NC just before the untimely demise of the group. The break-up was a crushing blow to Rivera and Jensen personally and creatively, leading to a four-year separation of the two artists.
While in Greenville, NC, Rivera continued to pursue musical interests that included metal, hip-hop, folk, and rock & roll. It was not uncommon to see him performing a solo acoustic set one night, playing heavy guitar another, or providing the backbone to numerous bands on his first love, the drums. Already very busy, he still found time to write poetry, lyrics, and rhymes, some of which can be found in Plan B's earliest material. Versatile does not even begin to describe Rivera's musical abilities. He is a talented drummer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, and lyricist.
Only two short hours away in Chapel Hill, Jensen was advancing his musical knowledge while attending the University of North Carolina. On top of academic courses, he obtained a more formal background of music by studying theory and history for two years and taking voice lessons. During this time, Jensen spent a lot of time writing lyrics and recording solo projects as well as playing guitar in various groups.
Although they were in separate towns, Rivera and Jensen kept in contact with one another, making plans to reunite and continue the pursuit of their dream to make music together. That reunion occurred in June of 2001 when Jensen moved from Chapel Hill to Greenville...Plan B was born. It took only a short while for the creative energy to blend once again. Plan B began working on material over a seven-month period that comprised their first recording, "The Dust". This ten song effort was recorded, produced, and engineered by Rivera and Jensen at their home studio and caught the ear of longtime friend Sean Rowe. Rowe had a vision and recognized Plan B's passion for music. In February of 2002, the three formed Animal Thug Records in Chapel Hill.
Melodic arrangements, well-crafted lyrics, and thick beats characterize Plan B's debut album "Chlorine Dreams" released in February 2004 by Animal Thug Records. The album is the culmination of nine months of work with Grammy Nominated Engineer Ian Schreier at Osceola Studios in Raleigh, North Carolina. Schreier and Plan B proved to form an excellent production team and are excited about the prospects of "Chlorine Dreams" reaching a wider and more diverse audience. Along with excelling in the studio, Rivera and Jensen share a passion for the stage. Contagious energy and undeniable chemistry resulting from years of performing together make Plan B's live show an event to remember. The year 2004 will surely be very productive for this versatile duo as they look to make an impact on the fast-growing North Carolina music scene and beyond.
