Pop-O-Pies "Pop-O-Anthology 1984 - 1993"
Featuring members of the bands, Faith No More and Mr. Bungle.
First time ever on CD. Digitally re-mastered from the original vinyl recordings (improved fidelity) by Tom Mallon and Klaus Fluoride of the Dead Kennedys.
Includes all the tracks from "Joe's 2nd & 3rd Records", and "The In Frisco Single". Plus, 2 previously unreleased bonus tracks from the 1993 Mr. Bungle sessions (18 tracks total, over an hour worth of music).
This CD features the songs and vocals of Faith No More's very first singer, Joe Pop-O-Pie.
There's a version of "Truckin" (of course), as well as a beautiful bass-ackwards version of "Sugar Magnolia" which (unusually enough) are loved by people who love or hate the Grateful Dead. Now THAT'S interesting.
On a historical note, despite the Pop-O-Pies irreverent but tasteful slams of the Grateful Dead's music, Jerry Garcia was actually a huge, and very supportive, fan of the band.
For those who have never heard the music of the Pop-O-Pies, it has been described in some of the following ways:
Jimi Hendrix sits in with an early 80's punk band while having a bad acid trip (that's PRE-hardcore, thank you).
Joe Pop-O-Pie describes his music as "hey, they're just some songs that I wrote. We played them, and that's how they came out. I don't know what the hell to call it."
But what really makes the music worthy of note, is it's interesting attitude. An atypical view of the current state of Rock 'n' Roll during time it was recorded. It's what many people were thinking, but were afraid to say, about the music scene during those years (1984 - 1993). Painfully honest and with a healthy dose of rye humor.
This CD is a must for all Pieheads AND Deadheads.

Anti-Reagan and stuff man, yeah.
author: Doug TidwellSome of the music that got me through the Reagan years. In the current political environment, "World-O-Morons" might dominate my playlist for the next four years. Thank God this is on CD, I can send the vinyl to the Smithsonian now. Every smartass home should have one.
The Words of Jamal (review version)
author: Karl von PantsIn a skinny tie, Members Only world, thank god we had Joe. I looked up the Pop-O-Pies every few months in that "if there really is a God" kinda way, and low and behold - my beloved and dusty vinyl will stay beloved and dusty. And finally I get that Pop-O-Feeling I haven't had in years. The Pop-O-Anthology. Listen, love it, live it. Good to have you back, Joe!
Tru-tru-tru-truckin'!
author: rich radkaI don't know if you can understand Joe without being there back in the day, but you can certainly try. None of the songs sound "punk" in a the boring, codified things ended up going, but he's punk to the core in his inconoclastic DIY idiot savant-ness. Love it, love it, love it. So glad to have it back in my collection.

tHESE WEre songs and albums of a far away magical time long long ago. And when some one stole them I saw my childhood end. Fcukin bastards. but then I saw this CD. I went back to that special place. I am content. Wait no I am not Where is the first album. Still. Mom i dont want pb&j.
Joe Pop-o-pie with a chip on his shoulder. what could be better!
author: nedI haven'd heard this stuff since my tapes went missing in 1989. I'd give 5 stars if you guys would just re-release the original albums on cd. That would be something else!
Great to see on CD - great staff at CD Baby (babay) - and funny schtuff
author: Erikthis stuff is fun & I'm so glad it's out again on CD - was wondering if I'd find it again - great schtuff... excellent... movin on down the road...
I have to agree with Kael, but I'll give it a 4
author: Tom SmithIt would only be complete if it had "The Catholics are Attacking"! Other than that IT IS GREAT!
No White EP - Agony!
author: Kael FischerIt's great, but without the stellar White EP material, sorry I can only give it 3 stars. Please, make us a batch with extra grease.
Joe always pleases!
author: Lissa MooreI love it Always have and always will :) I went to alot of Mr Bungle shows in the early 90s and was suprised but pleased to see them and DK take part in a very important Anthology all Pop O Pies I have are on old tapes and this is the first I have been able to find. Than You Thank You Thank YOu!!! :)
perfect gift
author: jayI had Joe's Second Album on cassette back in 1986(?); My younger brother took it to Rhodes College with him in '89 and promptly lost it. Last month we were wishing one of still had it. I found it here at CDBaby and Merry Christmas to him. I'll get my own copy later. For those who don't know the Pop's, think of it this way; Haight Ashbury meets the Clash or Pre-Post Grunge 'Frisco style or Zappa and Iggy on a peyote and speed bender (hey kids, don't do drugs!) This is pre-indie indie, guys! Back then the preppie kids listened to haircut-100, the smurf-punks overplayed the sex-pistols (it was all they knew), and the truly cool had the V-Femmes, Cure, Bad brains and of course the Pop-o-pies. Check out their official web-site!
(good) punk rock means you can always go back...
author: Loisaida Ladies ClubToo many crazy nights with the POP's back in 'Frisco. Thanks for helping me reclaim my past glory
blew my mind
author: KurdtThis CD rules. The first time I got it I played it till my ears hurt. Not only is it a great punk album but the lyrics are really funny and applicable to the music scene back in the 80's and to today. My only grudge: where's the first album!!?
Loved it then, love it now.
author: S HirstI had Joe's 2nd and 3rd records in the 80's, and have been searching like hell to find them on CD. This CD sounds GREAT!!! It would be nice if all CD's were re-mastered this well. THANK YOU!!!!
Was kick ass in the 80s, still kick ass today!!
author: Rob BrownI listened to these jams back in the 80s, thought it was gone when Shani moved away and so did the album, never seen since until about 2 weeks ago. Thank you CD baby!!!!
20 years on finally have the albums
author: Sir HCI have been wanting this CD since the mid 80s when I first heard some of these songs on the local college station. No one had the record then but now I GOT IT. Lots of fun stuff here.
Love it! Where's the First Record?
author: Andrew ShrieveI need the CD with "The Catholics Are Attacking" and stuff on it. Can I get it?
Pop-O-Amazing!
author: Steve RuggerioThe only thing cooler than the pop-o-pies logo is the music! The World-O-Morons song is worth the price of the whole CD. The only thing that would have made this better, is if the old White EP stuff was on it too. Maybe there wasn't enough room? Hopefully we'll see that make it to CD soon also. My vinyl's worn out.
Spirit, Excellent, Good Stuff...
author: Shannon Shimzer...Further On Down The Road! This is now a diamond in my CD Collection. Whenever I need a shot of inspiration these songs never fail. Joe Pop-O-Pie is a genius! But what about "Fascists Eat Donuts", "Catholics", and that other White EP stuff? I hope that gets put on CD some day.
Awesome Sounds!
author: Joan NicoliniThis is GREAT STUFF! I haven't heard these songs in over a decade, since my vinyl wore out. But where's the White EP stuff? I hope that comes out on CD soon!
Where did all these songs come from?
author: BobMakes you miss the good old days. Joe, when is the next one coming out?
Great, but where is..
author: Chris KaramonI have been waiting for this for years, and it is here! Thank you, but where is Catholics are attacking. Should have been on there, but I would order it again in a second!

As original copies of these P-O-P releases are scarce and pricey, I was delighted to stumble across this new release. And boy howdy, do they sound good this time around! Klaus Flouride did one hell of a job remastering everything to sound full and bright. This disc is a must-have for old-school punk rock collectors. It's a relic from San Francisco's colorful musical history, bringing general wackiness into a genre that parents percieved as violent and negative. With Grateful Dead covers, thrash, and some primitive rap, it's got everything for everyone. Anti-Reagan and stuff man, YEAH!
pop o pie have never sounded so good
author: mikeIt only gets 4 stars because they left the first album (EP) off. Anti Reagan and stuff yeah! A must by for anybody who was into the pies when they were the only thing worth listening too. The 80's were a barren wasteland and the pies took us away from all that.
A cry from the wilderness, in discordant visionary technicolor
author: scott snadenOkay if you don't know of the angelic musings of Mr. pie kneel down and thank God now that you have arrived here. This album is a compilation of discordant genius with comic under and overtones. Buy This CD put it in you player and Shut Up and Listen. Unfortunatly the first album was not able to be a part of this disc, but that only means we have something to look forward to in the future.
